Computex: Taiwan's SiMEye Smart Glass Rival's Google Glass

Computex: Taiwan's SiMEye Smart Glass Rival's Google Glass

Enterprise & IT Jun 5,2014 0

Taiwanese company ChipSiP has nabbed Computex's Best Choice award for a pair of smart glasses that aim to steal the market away from Google Glass. ChipSiP's SiMEye Smart Glass has been designed by ChipSiP’s core technology in system miniaturization. It features real-time and instant access to information and real-time communications made for a smart head-up life in a tiny design.

George Tai, President of ChipSiP, said, "Users can share their visual world in real-time, or have an immediate live view chat with their family and friends in a remote distance with the award-wining SiMEye Smart Glass. With the standalone and standard Android platform, the SiMEye Smart Glass allows users to download their favorite apps now, and enjoy the wearable entertainment. The eyewear provides instant access to information anytime, anywhere through any cloud service. Featuring the interaction with smartphones, users can manage phone calls and updates in real time without taking their phones out."

Smart features of SiMEye Smart Glass include visual world sharing in real time, a live view chat with your family and friends in a remote distance, the standard Android platform to allow users to download their favorite apps right away, access to information through any cloud service, phone calls and message management in real time without taking phones out. The SiMEye Smart Glass can be operated by either hand gesture or touchpad.

ChipSip touts its ability to download Android apps direct from Google's Play Store via SiMEye's user interface. By contrast Glass requires an owner to first download an app via another Android device before it can be transferred to the eyewear.

And SiMEye can also capture video in 1080p, four times the resolution of it rival -- Google Glass.

On the other hand, SiMEye lacks voice controls at this stage, there's no bone conduction audio.

The gadget is currently being trialled by US, European and Japanese testers, and is on course to go into production later this year. ChipSiP will also launch a portable VR (Virtual Reality) Head Mounted Display model soon among its smart glass family.Another Taiwanese company, VIEW PHONE TECHNOLOGY, showcases at Computex its VPT-S PhoneStation head-mounted device for smartphones.Rather than try to overlay information over your field of vision, its PhoneStation kit aims to immerse its wearers in 3D movies and games. Its trick is not to build new display tech from scratch, but to create a cheaper case into which you slot your existing smartphone and use its lenses to focus on the handset's suspended screen, mimicking the effect of looking at a much bigger display from a distance. The device features an adjustable and changeable lens module design for 3D stereoscopic display, in order to improve the "zoom effect" on a phone's screen. Through software integration, it is turning a user's smartphone -- featuring a 3.5~6-inch LCD screen with more than 720p resolution -- into 200-inch display screen. On the software side, as long as there is suitable matching app game software, users can now enjoy games on screen with 3D Virtual Reality display, head-tracing and augmented reality features. The VPT-S is lightweight, easy to carry, and has no electronic circuits, positioned by the company as a more convenient wearable device than than the Oculus Rift. According to the company, another benefit of the VPT-S PhoneStation is that it allows users to watch the screen without using their hands to hold the device. For example, don't have to use their hands in order to adjust the optical magnifying glass and focus the action.

During the COMPUTEX exhibition, VIEW PHONE TECHNOLOGY is seeking to attract distributors, resellers, game developers, app developers or video platform providers.
