Samsung's First Tizen Smartphone Is A Reality

Samsung's First Tizen Smartphone Is A Reality

Smartphones Jun 2,2014 0

Samsung Electronics has launched the Samsung Z , the world's first smartphone powered by the Tizen operating system. The company also announced the 7-inch Galaxy W phablet and the Samsung Galaxy K zoom smartphone enhanced for the Vine app. The Samsung Z comes with a 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED display and a 2.3 GHz Quad-core processor.

Samsung says that the Tizen platform delivers an optimal performance with improved memory management. The Samsung Z offers a faster startup time and immediate multi-tasking capabilities, supports 2D and 3D graphic qualities, smoother scrolling and an improved rendering performance for web browsing. It also comes equipped with a built-in fingerprint sensor for privacy protection. In addition, a n Ultra Power Saving Mode lets the phone stay operational even at minimal battery levels in emergencies.

Using Dynamic Box and Color Theme settings, users can tailor their device to what suits them best.

The Samsung Z will be available in Q3 in Russia and is planned to expand to other markets. Users will be offered to access additional applications through the Tizen Store at the launch of the Samsung Z. Samsung said the Tizen Store will provide a special promotional program to all developers for one year. Furthermore, Samsung plans to host a Tizen local app challenges in Russia and CIS countries to enrich the Tizen eco-system at the launch of the device.

Samsung did not disclose the device's price.

Most Samsung phones currently use the Android platform, but the South Korean firm has been working with chipmaker Intel to develop Tizen as an alternative operating system.

The latest version of its smartwatch - Galaxy Gear 2 - uses Tizen, unlike its Android-powered predecessor.

On Sunday, Samsung also announced that it would release a software development kit for TVs that allows developers to build applications for Tizen-based TVs.

Samsung 7-inch Galaxy W Phablet

Seperately, Samsung has announced in Korea the new Galaxy W, a device that blends the 7-inch screen of a small tablet with a relatively compact design that lets you hold it one-handed for phone calls.

The device has a 720p display, an 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 16GB of expandable storage, a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front cam. The W runs on Android 4.3 and it's selling for 499,400 won ($489) off-contract in its native Korea.

Camera Specialized-Smartphone -- Samsung Galaxy K zoom

Samsung also today announced Galaxy K zoom with the availability of an enhanced Vine application. This version of Vine, a service owned by Twitter that makes it easy for users to watch, create and share short looping videos, capitalizes on the zoom capabilities of the Galaxy device.

The Vine app for Galaxy K zoom features zoom buttons directly on the recording screen, allowing the user to easily zoom in and out when creating a Vine video on the Samsung device.

The Samsung Galaxy K zoom is available in select countries beginning May, 2014.
