Dell Quits Notebook Market

Dell has confirmed that it has stopped production of its Inspiron Mini netbook computer, ending its pursuit of the receding netbook market.

The company is focusing its efforts in the mobile computing space on selling lighter laptops and ultrabooks.

"We're committed to the highly portable space and have focused on delivering Thin + Powerful solutions, for which we've seen strong success, particularly in our XPS line," a company statement reads, referencing the company's XPS 15z and XPS 14z laptops.

Dell discontinued the line several months ago. The company introduced the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 in 2008 and later the Dell Inspiron Mini 10.

The netbook market has cooled since tablets have earned consumers' interest.

After all, Dell remains strong in the enterprise market.
