Dell Unveils The Streak 7 Android Tablet, New Smartphone at CES 2011


US computer giant Dell has announced plans to launch a new touchscreen tablet, the seven-inch Streak 7, and the Venue smartphone using Google's Android software.

Dell launched a smartphone late last year with Microsoft, using the US software giant's Windows Phone 7 mobile operating system, but it opted for Google's free Android platform for the latest device.

Dell's new 7-inch Android tablet, the Streak 7 is a 4G capable tablet designed for T-Mobile?s 4G network.

The Streak 7 has a seven-inch WVGA touch screen with Gorilla Glass. It features Google's Android 2.2 operating system, a dual core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and full support for Adobe Flash Player. It will come comes preloaded with a variety of content and applications from T-Mobile and will also have access to applications, games and widgets from Android Market.

The Streak 7 is also equipped with a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera for high-definition stills and video recording. The front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera with the preloaded Qik Video Chat application provide video-calling over T-Mobile's network as well as Wi-Fi.

The new Streak 7 will feature Dell's Stage user interface. Later this year, Dell will add syncing to Stage so people can keep their photos, contacts, calendars and other personal content synchronized across their Dell Stage-equipped devices, from tablets to PCs, connected through their home network.



The new Dell Streak 7 Tablet is expected to be available in the U.S. in the coming weeks at a "very competitive" price.

Dell is also showcasing the Venue Android 2.2 smartphone at CES 2011. The one-touch GSM smartphone comes unlocked providing instant access to everything you love. It will be pre-loaded with the Stage software and will have a 8-megapixel camera, a 4.1-inch AM-OLED display with curved Corning Gorilla Glass and an 1 GHz processor. As with the Dell Streak 7, Venue offers access to Android Market applications.

In addition, the Venue also comes equipped with today's necessary business features including support for ActiveSync and QuickOffice. The combination of high speed access and Swype for fast text input makes viewing e-mail, editing documents, and surfing the web fast and easy.
