TDK Showacse Transparent OLEDs at CEATEC 2010

Enterprise & IT Oct 5,2010 0

TDK will be operating a booth at CEATEC JAPAN 2010, a technology and electronics fair that will be held at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture from October 5 to 9. At this year's booth, which is based on the theme of "The resonance of core technologies: TDK eco Solutions," TDK will introduce its latest developments making full use of its core technologies, such as material and process technologies.

The booth will display TDK's solutions in new areas expected to grow from now on, such as smart-grid-related products and wireless power transfer units, and new products and technologies in four fields in which TDK is concentrating its efforts, namely, car electronics, information home electronics appliances, mobile technology, and industrial equipment and energy.

The TDK Booth will be divided into the following two zones:

Special Stage Zone

In this zone there will be demonstrations of TDK's smart-grid-related products and wireless power transfer units, as well as see-through and film organic EL displays.

TDK will showcase flexible and see-through organic displays. The company plans to begin mass production of the flexible displays within a year.

TDK uses a film display, or film substrate, not glass and not metal for the flexible displays, making them very light. These displays could be used in mobile devices and portable music players. The flexible film is 0.3 millimeters thick and can be installed on curved surfaces with a radius of less than 25 mm.

TDK's transparent organic displays are already in production. These are one-side emission displays. TDK achieves this by setting the light output to just the direction of the text. That means that only the primary user of the device would be able to see the display and not someone on the opposite side of the glass. The displays can be made up to three or four inches in size, limited by the size of the plates from which the displays are cut, the motherglass, which measures 30 to 40 centimeters across.

TDK plans to release film see-through displays starting in 2012.

Product Display Zone

In this zone TDK will introduce its new products in the four fields of car electronics, information home electronics appliances, mobile technology, and industrial equipment and energy. The new environment- and energy-related products on display will include on-board DC-DC converters for hybrid electric vehicles and heat-resistant multilayer ceramic capacitors in the field of car electronics; the world's top-level high recording density technology for HDD heads and common mode filters with built-in ESD protection function in the field of information home electronics appliances; MEMS microphones and front-end modules in the field of mobile technology; and LED power sources, varistor substrates, and bidirectional DC-DC converters in the field of industrial equipment and energy.
