Chimei Innolux Signs Medium-size IPS LCD Technology

Chimei Innolux (CMI) and Hitachi Displays, Ltd. signed a strategic medium size IPS technical collaboration agreement.

According to the agreement, Hitachi Displays will improve medium size IPS LCD panel supply capacity by OEM production support from CMI, and CMI will be able to add the high-end IPS LCD panel to their product offering.

IPS technology, with its advantage of better visibility from any viewing angle, is currently the most suitable display technology to meet the characteristics of Mini-Notebook PC. This strategic alliance between Hitachi Displays and CMI is expected to increase the total supply of medium size IPS LCD, which will see strong market demand, from early 2011.

The IPS technology is a TFT liquid crystal technology of the In-Plane-Switching method. The technology was released in 1995 and commercialized in 1996 by Hitachi, Ltd., evolving through Super-IPS to Advanced-Super IPS, IPS-Pro and then to IPS-Pro-Prolleza.
