Intel Slashes Quad-core, Dual-core Processor Prices

Intel has applied rather substantial price cuts to its both 45nm and 65nm desktop and server processors, covering 18 CPUs from the Core 2 Quad, Core 2 Duo, Pentium, Celeron, and Xeon lineups.

According to Intel's new price list, the Q6700 Core 2 Quad processor price decreased from $530 to $266 for a shipment of 1,000 chips -- a 50% change. The Intel Xeon X3230 also had its price slashed in half, dropping from $530 to $266.

The company also noted that the price of 1,000 Core 2 Duo E6850 chips was cut from $266 to $183, a 31% drop, while the Intel Celeron 430 dipped 23%, to $34. And the price of an Intel Xeon 3085 shipment was cut from $266 to $188.

Below you can see a list of the affected processors with their new prices:

Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz 8MB 1066MHz - $266
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 8MB 1066MHz -$224
Core 2 Duo E8300 2.83GHz 6MB 1333MHz - $163
Core 2 Duo E7200 2.53GHz 3MB 1066MHz - $133
Core 2 Duo E6850 3GHz 4MB 1333MHz - $183
Core 2 Duo E4600 2.4GHz 2MB 800MHz - $113
Pentium E2200 2.2GHz 1MB 800MHz - $74
Pentium E2180 2GHz 1MB 800MHz - $64
Celeron E1400 2GHz 512KB 800MHz - $53
Celeron E1200 1.6GHz 512KB 800MHz - $43
Celeron 440 2GHz 512KB 800MHz - $44
Celeron 430 1.8GHz 512KB 800MHz - $34
Celeron 570 2.66GHz 1MB 533MHz - $134
Celeron 560 2.13GHz 1MB 533MHz - $107
Celeron 550 2GHz 1MB 533MHz - $86
Xeon X3230 2.66GHz 8MB 1066MHz - $266
Xeon X3220 2.4GHz 8MB 1066MHz - $224
Xeon 3085 3GHz 4MB 1333MHz - $188

The complete price list of Intel's processors is available here.

The move keeps up the pressure on Intel's rival AMD. AMD said last week that it's on track to ship its first 45nm chips in volume in the fourth quarter. The company also recently released its first three and quad core Phenom processors, priced at $235~150 (2.5GHz~ 1.8GHz).
