Pioneer Introduces New DVD Multi Writers

Pioneer officialy announced today the introduction of three new internal DVD writers for Windows PCs - the DVR-A10-J, DVR-A10-JBK and DVR-A10-JSV. All three drives have the same features and support recording for all DVD formats, including DVD-RAM.

Frequent visitors of CDRInfo.com have already been informed about the drives' specifications, which are similar to those offered by the Pioneer DVR-110D reviewed recently, but additionally include support for DVD-RAM recording at 5x. The same drive can be also met as Pioneer DVR-110 (beige front bezel) or DVR-110BK (black bezel) in its OEM version.

Pioneer offers the new device in three coloring variations, the DVR-A10-J (pure white), DVR-A10-JBK (black) and DVR-A10-JSV (silver). The drives support recording and playback of recordable discs in seven DVD formats (DVD-R, Dual Layer DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, DVD+R, DVD+R Double Layer, and DVD+RW) as well as CD-R and CD-RW discs.

The recorders 8x writing on Dual Layer DVD-R (DVD-R DL) and DVD+R Double Layer media (DVD+R DL). At the same time, they provide high-quality recording and high reliability with quiet operation owing to Pioneer's proprietary technologies irrespectively of disc formats. These include the automatically adjusted write strategy set for each of used discs by selecting from the optimum write-strategy data stored in the writers. In addition, the supported Multi-Effect Liquid Crystal Tilt Compensator improves the recording and playback characteristics by adding astigmatism correction to the existing tilt correction and spherical aberration correction.

For recording on single layer DVD discs, the Pioneer multi drives have adopted the CAV strategy, featuring 16x high-speed recording to DVD-R and +R discs, The writers also record at 32x speed on CD-RW discs, 6x speed on DVD-RW, and 40x speed on CD-R discs.

The recorders will come bundled with an extensive collection of software applications for DVD/CD authoring, editing, DVD slide show creation, and data recording.

The DVR-A10-J series will be available in Japan in late September 2005, and worldwide at the beginning of October. Pioneer has not yet announced pricing details.

Pioneer has also announced the OEM versions of the drives, that will be available in PCs and also from Pioneer's distribution network. Five models are available:

- DVR-110: SuperMulti drive (with RAM-write), beige front bezel
- DVR-110BK: SuperMulti drive (with RAM-write), black front bezel
- DVR-110D: Dual format drive (without RAM-write), beige front bezel
- DVR-110DBK Dual format drive (without RAM-write), black front bezel
- DVR-110DSV Dual format drive (without RAM-write), silver front bezel

The DVR-110D/DBK/DSV are currently available and the DVR-110/BK from the end of September.
