Canon Launches Seven New PowerShot Cameras

First they announced two new digital SLR cameras, now we see a total of seven new point and shoot cameras. Each of the cameras appeal to different users ranging from the compact wallet sized, to a mid-high end compact with an 8 megapixel sensor.

On the higher end of the camera spectrum for P&S cameras released Monday, there is the Canon PowerShot S80. The S80 is an upgrade to the S70 that boasts new features such as an 8 megapixel sensor, 2.5" wide viewing angle LCD, 15fps XGA video capture and a 4 way control wheel. The only downgrade is the removal of RAW capture format, only JPEGS and TIFFS on this model. The camera will take SD/MMC cards for storage.

Next in the lineup are the PowerShot SD450 and SD550 cameras. The SD450 will house a 5 megapixel sensor, and the SD550 will use a 7 megapixel sensor. A neat feature, the orientation sensor, which is present in many higher end cameras, automatically rotates your photos so you can preview them upright on your camera. Both models will feature SD card storage, a large wide viewing angle 2.5? LCD screen, DIGIC II processor, and rechargeable Li-Ion batteries.

The PowerShot SD30 is an addition to Canon's ultra-compact line. Continuing in the tradition of the SD20, this camera has a small form factor but packs pretty good features. The main selling point will be the new zoom lens, 2.4x, that was unavailable on the previous models. The SD30 will also come in four colors; red, gold, purple, and traditional black.

Moving along we have the PowerShot A610 and A620 models which both featuring a 4x optical zoom lense (same as on the G6), 30FPS VGA video, USB 2.0, and flip-out twistable 2.0" LCD screen for those difficult from the hip or over head shots. The only difference between the two models is the megapixels; A610 at 5 megapixels and the 620 at 7 megapixels.

Finally, we have the A410, an entry-level point and shoot upgrade to the A400. The 410 upgrade includes a 3.2x zoom lens, smaller casing, 5 point auto focus, and the new DIGIC II processor. The camera will use SD cards for storage, double AA batteries for power, and will house a 1.6" LCD.

Prices in USD are as follows:

Canon Powershot S80 - $549
Canon Powershot SD450 - $399
Canon Powershot SD550 - $499
Canon Powershot SD30 - $399
Canon Powershot A610 - $299
Canon Powershot A620 - $399
