Taiwan market: Pioneer lowers price of 16x DVD Dual DL burner

In response to the reduced retail price of 16x Super Multi DVD burners, Pioneer has lowered the retail price of its 16x DVD Dual DL (single-sided double-layer) burners from NT$3,500 (US$108) to NT$3,199 (US$98).

In addition, Lite-On IT, BenQ and Asustek Computer have all lowered their retail prices for 16x DVD Dual DL burners from NT$3,250-3,400 (US$100-105) to NT$2,990 (US$92) or even slightly lower. Second-tier local brands such as Micro-Star International (MSI) and Gigabyte Technology, however, maintained their prices at NT$2,900-2,950 (US$89-91).

The reduced prices of 16x DVD burners have increased the retail sales volume of DVD+R/-R discs by about one-third, the sources noted.
