Hello, I am totally new here. I bought a new 3520a yesterday, firmware is still 1.04. I am totally lost about those autobitset, rip lock, etc. Can anyone recommend which firmware I should go upgrade? Thanks a lot!

So with stock firmware v1.04 only DVD+R DL backed up dvds will play in a standard dvd player?

Would i need to upgrade to 1.25 to play dvd-r's in a normal dvd player? thanks

Hi, i have flashed my OEM 3520A with LD3520_1U6, now that my comptuer keep rebooting once the drive is detected on load, i have the same problem at first when i set the drive as master but the problem seems to be fixed after i switch the drive to slave, so i decided to test the drive with burning a few dvds, it runs like butter 'till it gets to the 5th dvd, the computer had crashed a blue screen came up and it rebooted itself, after the reboot i have burned another dvd no problem, i figure it must be some firmware problems.. so i decided to flash it for the better... and yet comes the nightmare..

Not only now that i have went back to the same problem that i had from the start for setting the drive on master, but now it happen even on slave.. what can do now? i can't flash the firmware anymore since it got rebooted soon as the drive had detected...dose anyone have a solution to this problem? i neeeed expert advise.. i neeeed hellppppppppppppppppp.. any of help would be greatly appreciated.

peace.

I had a few questions on using Binflash (v1.11) for BookTypes. I have a 3520A with TDB's 1.25 on it (Riplock + RPC1).

The default Device selected for me in the dropdown menu at the top is "G: [_NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A 1.25]"; I can also choose a "1.0.0" device instead of "G:". For either, the BookType window shows "DVD+R SL (none)" and "DVD+RW (none)" are both settable and currently listed as "Factory default (active)." What does the "(none)" represent? I assume it means no alternate booktype has been set for that media type, but then the "DVD+R DL" also shows "(none)" and I thought that defaulted to DVD-ROM? Most importantly, when I attempt to change either/both to "dvd-rom" and I hit the "Apply" button I get a pop-up error box saying "Drivetype could not be determined." Any ideas? The Details information box shows 3 instances of "Using Ricoh bitsetting commands" when I attempt the failed BookType change.

Lastly, if I successfully change the booktypes, is there a way I can check to see that a burned DVD+R's disc has its booktype set to DVD-ROM? Would Nero's DriveInfo tool show DVD-ROM instead of DVD+R under the Disc sub-menu?

Thanks for the help, and sorry for the noob questions.

@Foolishness: 1.25 autobitsets booktype, so you cannot set it
