I'm having some frustrating intermittent problems with the Philips CDD4801 drive that's in my Presario desktop. I've updated the firmware to v2.5 but the drive still is not consistently recognized when I boot my computer. Here's the deal:

1. When I restart or boot up I see a flashing vertical white rectangle in the upper right corner of my screen and then I'll get a black screen that tells me that my computer has been updated - and will show my scsi ids (hard drive, dvd drive, cd drive, etc.), but, the Philips drive is sometimes there and sometimes not.
2. Often, I'll get an inifinite loop of the above scenerio until finally, by some magic, the drive is recognized and the boot successful, or, windows gives up on trying to recognize and starts up with the drive dead.

Am I having a hardware failure, or, is this software? Any insights or tips? Please, please, please. Thanks! Eric

Name and models of Drives

F:\Philips CDD4801 (internal)
G:\Iomega USB Zip Drive (external)
H:\Mitsumi CR 4802TE (QueDrive) (external)

I'm uncertain on how to identify the Primary/Secondary Slaves

What Motherboard and Operating System are you using

Configure the philips cdd4801 as master
I believe that compaq uses cable select.
