This drive is scaring me!  I mean...What an EXCELLENT drive!!!

I played around with more Verbatim DVD-R 16X disks..I did a test burn and it came in at 5:29...thought...Hmmm!...a bit fast...I wonder if the quality is going to be any good at that speed...KIDDING MYSELF...look for yourself...

My Plex 716A, nor Benq 1640 EVER did burns this clean...I am so happy with this drive...and this is after beating on it for the past few days...with Dual Layer...+R...and Even an old 1X DVD-RAM disk.

Do you know if the HP OEM versions (740i, 840i, etc.) can be crossflashed?

I would think you could cross flash it with a dos flasher and the .bin file... but don't quote me on that.  It seems like it would be possible though.  If you find a flasher, I can provide you the .bin file.

You can with the flasher of the LG 4166 1.01 firmware.
Just verify before that LG 4166B appears on the top sticker.

Well, Since updating to the new 1.02 FW I have run into a brand new problem (still have the same problems as before as far as media burning), but now that I flashed it, Nero no longer recognizes the drive as a lightscribe drive. Lol, I think I must have grabbed the worst 4166B out there.

*Update* Nevermind, I got the lightscribe function working again.

I have huge problems writing any DVD-R after flashing with 1.02 firmware. lead-in takes about 1-3 minutes
and after that it may even fail. Recording speed is wired, 4,1 to 6,2 7,6 or 8,1 during a burn. And then closing
can take forever. I should point out that during the flashing the drive tray opend up but then i happend to move and hit it with my knee so it closed. The flash was still stated succesfull but i wonder if it could be a reason. Any ideas before i send it away for 2 weeks ?

If firmware 1.01 works well for you, simply flash your drive back to firmware 1.01.
