Thanks...prior to the flash, I had the GWA-4166B and it would not complete a standard CD-R burn successfully.
I used your 1.01 flash to a GWA-4164, rebooted, then flashed to the GSA-4166B version 1.02. Now the drive works
correctly. This makes me wonder "Why can't HP/Compaq get this fixed?"

This is because PC manufacturers don't have anything to do with the hardware, and they will never help you with it, only their "machine in itself" Most manufacturers use good products, but have either the BIOS flashed with their own crappy firmware, or you get the OEM firmware such as you had....

You should be good to go now, and enjoy the full benefits of the Retail GSA-4166B. It's a rather nice drive.

hey got the lg 4166b but when i go to burn a dvd in nero the rom ejects the disc and says insert a blank disk. I have the firmware 1.02 version installed.
Anyone know what could be wrong?
the rom burns cdrs but will not burn or play dvds, also when a disk is inserted the drive doesn't recognise it.

Hey....same problem here....can not burn DVDs and reads only a few of them....but it reads and burns CDs

I am facing the exact same issue with my GSA-2166D. I can burn DVD-R,+R dual. But I could not get to burn CD-R at all. I tried verbatim and fuji media. When I insert a blank CD-R it would blink for about 15 secs and Nero, iTunes will not recognize them at all. I have 1.01 version of firmware. With DVD buring I have no issues at all, I use cloneDVDIII for ripping DVDs. Any ideas what might be wrong ?
