Hi MP3Mogul

when the LG4164 is not the same Hardware as a 4166B is , why has LG put a 4164 in the External USB 2.0 GSA 2166D?
I opend the case from the 2166 and there was a 4164 inside.

Can you ask your contact @ LG to send us a Firmware for the GSA 2166D, because my brorther
is now a little bit angry about me, because i flashed his 2166 to 4166B with the Firmware above....
I opend the bin file with Ultraedit, but have not found the place to cange 4166 to 2166...

I am thinking to buy a second brurner, what do you think amoung these 3 Burners..
NEC 4551, Benq 1655, Plextor 716AL.Can you give me your advice?

hello,

i have also flashed the LG2166 with the FW 1.01 and after flash the drive named 4166. I changed the ID-String in FW to 2166 an flashed again, now Nero show 2166 with FW 1.01.

MP3Mogul write:
I have emailed LG, and they state the hardware in the 4164/4166 are totally different. The 2166 and the 4166 are the same drive, one external, the other internal.

I dont know what drive in my external case (4164 or 4166 or ???) but if LG make different drives in case of 2166 how will Future FW-Updates from LG works ?.

With FW 1.01 the drive workes great and now i can burn DVD+RW 8x (Ricoh) with 8x Speed. (With FW 1.00 this Media only burn with 4x and many errors)

A Verbatim DVD+R 16X printable in jewelcase, made in Taiwan.
Burned @16X on the LG 4166 1.01 :

Scan done with a BenQ 1620 :

The LG 4166 is fast (16X CAV) and gives very good quality on this popular16X mediacode.

The jitter is very low for a 16X burn.

Yeah, I've had the same result from the ones made in Taiwan. I get the 8x ones, and the burns are superb.

A (full) Plextor DVD+R 16X (in spindle), burned @16X in 5mn50s on the LG 4166 firmware 1.01 and scanned on my "old" BenQ 1620 :

Good but PIE levels are better with MCC004 in case.

Quite perfect for a 1.01 firmware on this deffect free media.

By the way :

Philips 52X CD-R LightScribe in case are made in India by Moser Bear. They look very similar to Verbatim discs.

Two passes with Nero Cover Designer (from the Nero 6.6.0.18 suite) : 2 x 28 min

hi i have just purchased a lg dvd rw lg gsa-4166b, but it wont read any region 2 dvd's, it is not locked it still has 3 chances left to change, it reads my muli zoned dvd and reads my region 1 discs but not region 2, i returned my drive to the store where i purchased it and they exchanged it for a new drive, but am having the same problem. so i went back and they tested a third drive on one of there pc's and same problem.

can anyone help
