the side fan .. the generic one is on the buttom of the side door ... and at the moment its off cause I didnt had free 3-pin to connect it to :)
beside .. warm air rises up .. so it aint the problem :) cause its in the buttom :)

Leave fans out of this...if you have 5 (4 working) of them as you said...its ok...[;)]

Problem is either in:
-Bios
-cooler installation problem (or some thermal compound missing or not enough of it or something like this...)
-sensor problem
-something else....god knows...[:)]

Sorry but i forgot what you said about "random lockups"? Do you experience them? or some other problems while running at 100% load for some time? anything?

Because at 75degrees+ there would surely be some problems arrising...or computer would reset for no reason and stuff....so...how about that?

EDIT:
And yes...the link above that Antonio provided just prooves my theory....that it has nothing to do with case fans...cause if you look at that article...you will see that even the case WITHOUT ANY FANS had "only" 58 degrees @ cpu at 100% load and 52 at idle....and board temps were 51 and 47 (load and idle)...[;)] So this Myth is BUSTED (by MythBusters)....[8D][:D]

there was only 1 reset .. which had to do with me browsin and the new firewall I installed .. just did a reset .. there were some errors in the system logs .. but it wasnt about the heatin of the proccessor ..
hmm .. well .. my winamp music kinda bumped abit but thats all .. I do believe that the onboard VGA had something to do with that ;)
hmm ...
I dont know :(
I will add more fans just for the fun of it ;) ha ha ...

EDIT -> I will replace the generic fans with better ones .. that run abit faster and do a better job ..
also .. I wanna add the top case fan .. thats a must .. to take all the hot air from the roof of the case outside ;) maybe even do few air holes there .. without addin' a fan hole+fan .. :)

As I stated before, CALM DOWN.

It is normal for a P4 running at this fast Ghz to run HOT, the prescott does this normally.  The P4 will protect itself and start to throttle at 95c..... NOTICE I SAID 95c!!!!!!!

It is "normal"

When I first started building Prescott systems, I went through EVERY cooler imaginable just like you are doing.  I then emailed Intel, and Asus, and was told it was "normal"

Throttle is speed up... and with more speed, comes more heat.

Now, if you are worried about heat, which MP3Mogul is right - calm down, especially if you are not locking up....    Your going to get lock-ups if the temp gets too high first.

I assume you just built your first system.  My friend, you did fine, and I understand your concern.  It works and you've got an OS and some apps on it.  If you are over-clocking, I suggest you look at some other cooling devices and use a good thermal paste.  Heck, I'd probably do that anyway.... and like I said before, I've got big hands and it's never been a problem for me.  The hardest thing I've ever done building a system is hooking up the damn power button, speaker, reset, etc... 

Tell us about your case selection, the PSU, etc.

Actually,

  Throttle when talking in terms of P4 means the chip has heated up too much and it will "throttle" down to cool itself off.  And believe me, you will NEVER reach 95c under ANY normal condition.  This 95c throttle was produced by unplugging all fans in the case including the CPU fan by Intel!

  You will not melt anything.... TRUST ME....... Also and SithTracy stated above about overclocking.  I DO NOT RECOMMEND overclocking any P4 running at 3.0Ghz or higher unless you have an icecube on it....

   The people you state are telling you their temps are lower are NOT using Prescott chips.  Your Chip a 478 Chip is a PRESCOTT chip, and the temps are normal for it.

And also...I personally believe that the person who posted those temps was either living in Iceland or lying like XXXX...[8D][:)] Because even nonOC'd systems cant get such low temperatures...not even watter cooled ones....maybe only subzero solution could yield such results...but surely not P4 3.2 (any core) OC to 3.9 ! 35 max,hahahahahaha....and 20 idle? come onnnnnn....to get that...you would need to live in some place with max 10-15 degrees celsius ambient temperature...and even then....I can hardly imagine all that...not with 3.9 monster inside....[8D][:D]

well .. its actually my 3rd system ;) that I built .. and I really believes that the problem is with the bios or the sensors .. maybe voltage is wrong by system or bios .. I dont know :(
Case :  hmm .. Ive got some Chieftech Dragon full tower I think .. it has 4 spaces for CD and 2 for floppy ...
Ive got Enermax 350w or something like that ..
well .. I do noticed that it has only 20 pin connector for the motherboard and not 24pin like the new ones has ... (extra +12v -12v)
so on the mother board Ive got 2 power slots ..
1. near the cpu - you need to connect square 4 pin to it from the PSU ..
2. near the IDE slot, its needs 24 pin from the PSU (I only got 20pin connector so it lefts 4 pins empty ...) maybe I need some adapter for it ? from 20->24 pin ?
or to buy a new PSU with about 400w and that has round cables .. ?

maybe I will try it .. ;) or get some mobile  A\C and put it next to my PC ;) ha ha ..
I already plan to do it .. it gets really hot in israel durin summer ... and I must get a mobile personal A\C For myself .. and I think to locate it next to the case intake fans :) ha ha ..

If your room temprature is 40 or more degrees is logical to have such tempratures in your case.

the room now has ~24c .. on summer it can get to 30-40 .. depends ;)
