ok, i have been reading other posts and from what i understand i can upgrade my frimwear to 6500a and be able to burn dvd-R. what are the draw backs to doing this? can i still use DVD X copy platinum by 321 studios? will it hurt my hardware? should i do the upgrade and which version should i get? im kinda confused as to if it is worth it...all im trying to do is copy my movies and have them be able to play on my normal dvd play...

Usually firmware upgrade won't make any problem to the hardware, unless you interrupt before finished. When upgrade to 6500 you would be able to burn -R media too, but i think there is a specific firmware for your drive that supports it

Currently supplied as binaries suitable for flashing in DOS. The package includes original stock firmware, RPC1 with Rip Lock, and Rip Lock only. The patched version include the 6100 @ 6500 patch. 2.22, 2.23, and 2.40 Fuji-Siemens.
