Sorry... I only downloaded the firmware from scorpiosoft's webpage... It's my error.

I use the laptop in a little time... My companions uses it more time.

Thanks... I study the update to 6500a... though we don't use dual layer DVDs.

Greetings...

Hi all

I would appreciate any advice about this issue.

I flashed my nec 6450 to 6500a using binflash with no problems. The pc recognized the new hardware, nero info tool recognizes it as a 6500 and it works fine, BUT without the DL burning capabilities.. I've tried firmware version 2.22, 2.23, 2.24, 2.81, 2.02c and 2.no. All give the same result.

this is what happens with DVD decrypter. With the 6450 firmware, DVDD does not recognize a DL disc, with 6500 FW, the DL disk is recognized, but the error "cannot write medium - incompatible format" is returned when burnning is attempted.

Nero calls it an illegal disc when burning is attempted.

Anyone have any idea what the problem is?

Same here...

Tried all versions of the 6500A firmware like problemchild did, but I could get the DL recording to work. I always got the same error from Nero and the burn process halted in the very begining (it didn't even affect the Blank DVD+R DL in any way.... it still is a Blank DVD+R DL)

Any ideas???

Just as an heads up -- I have a Compaq Presario V2030US that comes with NEC 6450A /w 2.36 firmware.  I flashed it with 6500A firmware version 2.23.  Now I have the ability to Burn DVD+R DL DVDs(but not DVD-R DL) according to the DVD decryptor. It's working well so far(burned regular 4.7GB dvds), though I haven't tested dual-layer DVD+R just yet.

Just as a question: do I have to stick with the 6500A 2.23? What's the latest 6500A with DL support?

Kashif

Hello everyone,

I just registered in your forum because I stumbled upon this thread using Google to find the latest firmware version for my NEC ND-6500A. I followed the steps in denieds post. My problem is; what do I do with the "rar" file? I try dowloading the 2.23 firmware update from the thread he mentioned and it downloaded as a rar file. I have no idea what to do with a rar file. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

Also, I don't seem to be having any serious issues with this drive. What does the update do? Would I really need it?

Ok, I found a link to the NEC FAQs at cdfreaks in another thread. I clicked the link on that page to NEC's official firmware web site and downloaded the firmware version 2.24 for my NEC drive. I have updated my drive and all seems well. I don't notice any difference. Does the update give me any new features or settings? Just curious ....

Thanks to everyone here, your great info and forum. Much appreciated.

.RAR files are compressed files (like .ZIP) you need WinRAR (www.rarlabs.com) to un-compress them

I have the same problem. I have an HP dv1000, I flashed from 6450A to 6500A. I have tried memorx and verbatim DVD+R DL and nero errors at the star of the burn stating illegal disc.

I have tried 2.24 and 2.NO, nothing seems to work. Anyone have a solution?

I figured out my problem. I have to change the booktype for the drive.
I used NEC winflash, changed it to DVD+R DL....and it works like a champ now.

Hi All,

I've got a HP Nx6120 that has a ND-6450A in it but, my notebook only has a single channel and the DVD-RW is the slave.

Is their any way of telling if the channel is set within the firmware or hardware set?  And if so, which 6500A firmware is compatible with my configuration?

My drive is currently running firmware V2.36

Emperor, thanks.

Sorry, I don't quite understand.

Is bin flash able to tell me weather my drive is currently using cable-select, reverse-ata, master or slave firmware???

Also, which firmware is which?  I understand that the 4.xx firmware is reverse-ata, but are all the others cable-select and/or hardware jumper set compatable?

Or is it as simple as the 4.xx firmware is reverse-ata and the 2.xx firmware is standard?
