A new firmware 2.19 has been published for the NEC 3500:

I don't understand why this firmware is published while we are waiting for the 2.R8 which is supposed to allow PI/PO sacns with DVDinfoPro and CD DVD Speed

Dunno, we have already asked NEC about the new PI/PI firmware...my guess is that they wanted the corresponding firmware to support it and after being tested from several people to officially release it

2.19 probably adds more media...haven't compared it yet with the previous firmware

NO CHANCE LightScribe technology is built into the hardware of the drive

Hi all guys, I was out for a while from the scene and I'm not updated.

At the moment I'm using the firmware 2.C8 from TDK on my TDK 1616n .

Can you please tell me what is the best firmware for my hardware??

Hi , It's me again :p

I tried to flash the Maddog 2FD firmware and I'd like to ask a thing .

With 2.C8 firmware I've ever had my BOOKTYPE setting in DVD+R and DVD+R-DL at DVD-ROM after flashing.

With Maddog 2.FD now those settings are DVD+R for DVD+R type and DVD-ROM for DVD+R-DL , is this normal?

you can use 2.28 firmware, you can set DVD+R/+RW and of course DVD+R DL bitsetting

Yah... I have a problem. I d/led the new firmware off the NEC site, and flashed it to my OEM drive, and I think it killed it. I know the site said the OEM drive might have problems with the new firmware, but I flashed it anyway. Now, when I burn a DVD, the dvd (orginally 4.2 gb's of anime) read that it is only 512 kb. All the files are there, and I can access them just fine, but my xbox cannot read the avi files anymore, since the size is incorrect.

The flasher said I had 2.16 firmware before I flashed to 2.19, and so I got the 2.16 from the dangerous brothers, and reflashed it with the 3500orig.bin, but still no luck. Still burns, but reports the incorrect file size on both of my dvd burners.

Is there anyway I could possibly fix it?

Oh yeah, the burner I have is the NEC 3500 which I purchased from NEWEGG. My burner, though capable of high speed burning, was only burning at a 2x maximum, so I thought that a new firmware might fix it... how stupid of me.

please help.
