I have a CD-RW that was formated a few months ago using InstantCD. I copied some utilities onto the CD, no problems. I went to update a utility with a newer version and it stated that the CD is write protected. I'm not sure if I have to have InstantCD still installed to get back into it to do this. Anyway I reinstalled InstandCD, rebooted and still gets the same error so I ended up copying all to my HD and reformatting the CD-RW and put the utilities back. I could understand if this was a CDR but isn't that what CD-RW disks are for? I use to even be able to do this with CDR back when I used DirectCD but as you know it's not compatable with WinXP. And yes I do have my IMAPI burning set to manual.

Thanks,
Debbie

doesn't seem anyone has replied, so i'll ask first of all,
you know InstantCD is from Pinnacle and is not the same as InCD from Ahead, right?

but lucky for you i think i understand what you mean
what happens is real mess
if you know how to use your registry really well, then
the solution is simple.
you have to search for all instances of the word "instantwrite", without the quotes of course.
even when the InstantCD is quote-unquote deleted, it leaves behind as many poorly written programs do, the residues of itself.

if you give it a shot and still have the same problem, i can help you some more with a list of every single delettion, but it's gonna take me some time to prepare the list; it's not long it's just, you know, windows, system registry. ugh

hope that helps

The UDF filesystem contains a flag for marking read-only a media. It could be that your media had this flag marked on by InstantCD.

To workaround the issue you could copy the content of the media on your HD, then reformat the media, and restore the files on the media.
