I start to believe that maybe the problem "lies" upon Philips chipsets, we will see what BenQ will accomplish, for sure its a good +R burner

perhaps new firmware will cure there -r problems a bit.

btw is anyone else unable to burn philips c08 @12x after upgrade to b7h9?

I think the review simply "true" meaning, nothing was hidden, even i felt the drive deserved some kind of award, the performance with +R media is very nice, but not editors choice award and with so many problems with -R format, no safe buy either...

@emperor: Did you take a look inside the 1600 and 1620 to see if they are 100% identical??

you can see from the reviews that they are the same... there are photos of the inner parts of these drives...

Kinda annoying since my old writer, which produced always perfectly readable discs with the same media, died recently and I got a stack of these discs left, tho I can still use them for things that don't need to be read on tihngs other then comp

Hoping this is media related coz I'd like to be able to write discs that work on my own dvd player sometime ;-) tho I could still try +R media when I get some of those, should be able to read that in the player as well... so not totally out of optiosn yet ;-)

My name is Hugo, and I'm from Portugal, I have a problem with the Benq DW 1620 (firmware b7c9) and DVD-R Princo 4X.
It appears it has recorded fine (no other drive to test this, but I got a " recorded sucessfully" with Nero 6), but when I try to read it it gives an "incorrect Function" error!!!
After firmware update ( to version b7h9) I can't even burn DVD-R!!!
I haven't tried DVD+R Media 'cause the only one I have came with the drive... and I'm going to retrun it , therefore I have to return the all package.

It reads fine DVD-ROM...
