With Princo 4X DVD-R media i got a nice coaster, drive locked at 16%....still burning

With Philips 16X +R media, at 16X the DW1620A probably made a world record with 5:42mins for our usual burning project

Looks like Benq DW16xxA is a real +r(w) burner. Shame they can't get the same results with -r(w) media.

Well it has some problems with specific media, i will finish burns tomorrow and hopefully a review can be published soon

My CMC 4x -R media was just burned and looks fine.

The only problem is my DVD-Player can't recognize it.

Tried it with 4x Princo -R media, burned fine...read fine on computer drives, but not on all standalone players, only 2 out of 4 in the house seem to be able to read the disc (and of course mine can't :\)

Kinda annoying since my old writer, which produced always perfectly readable discs with the same media, died recently and I got a stack of these discs left, tho I can still use them for things that don't need to be read on tihngs other then comp

Hoping this is media related coz I'd like to be able to write discs that work on my own dvd player sometime ;-) tho I could still try +R media when I get some of those, should be able to read that in the player as well... so not totally out of optiosn yet ;-)

Well, since my DW1600->1620 works fine with +R media, I think I will keep burning +R instead of -R.

Yes probably DW16xx series are fine tuned for +R format, as was expected since uses Philips chipsets

Wondering why I still bought 10 -R discs yesterday??
If I want to test the writing quality, why not only bought one or two, but ten?

I upgraded 1600->1620 just because benq stopped firmware-support for the 1600.
The +r(w) burnquality of the 1600 was great but now it's a 1620 it's even better.
I only use +r(w) media so I don't care much about -r(w) although it would be nice if it can be burned as good as +r(w) media.

From some first quality tests, things are not very nice with -R media...Two burned discs were recognizable with LiteoN 811S and Plextor PX-712A

I don't know what it is but looks like there's an error in the upgrade firmware.
After I flashed the 1600_1620-b7h9 firmware my drive gave me alot of coaster when burning at 16x. When it reaches 14-15x I got an write-error . Now I've flashed the b7h9 firmware (for real 1620) and have no coasters but can't burn the disc (ricohjpn-r02) at 16x it now does 12x. Nero CD/DVD-speed says disc can be burned at 2.4-16x but now doesn't go over 12x.
