Apple is expected to introduce new versions of its iPad and iPad Mini in an Oct. 22 event. The date was previously reported by Current Editorials and confirmed separately Tuesday by tech news site All Things D.

"The fifth-generation iPad is expected to feature a thinner, lighter design akin to the iPad mini's, and an improved camera. It will run Apple's new 64-bit A7 chip. The second-generation iPad mini will be upgraded with a retina display and also likely see the A7 incorporated into its innards. It's not clear whether Apple's new iPads will feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor that recently debuted on the iPhone 5s, though that has been rumored," according to All Things D.

According to David Hsieh Vice President, Greater China Market for DisplaySearch, the iPad Mini is expected to have a 7.9" 2048 x 1536 display, while the iPad 5 will carry a 9.7" 2048 x 1536 display.

Apple also will show reportedly show its new Mac personal-computer operating system, called Mavericks, and Mac Pro PC.

Apple declined to comment about AllThingsD's report.
