Asustek Computer, Foxconn Electronics (the registered trade name of Hon Hai Precision Industry) and GemTek Technology had hoped to grab the orders and become Sonys second supplier of the wireless modules. Foxconn was expected to win the orders, as Sony has already placed orders with the EMS giant to assemble the PSP consoles, the paper added.
Foxconn declined to comment on the report.
CyberTAN Technology is the other wireless module supplier for Sony, with the network equipment specialist landing PSP-use WLAN module orders in November 2004. The company should remain Sonys chief supplier in the second half, despite Sonys move to diversify its suppliers, the paper indicated.
CyberTAN declined to comment on the report, citing customer confidentiality.
