Scythe is a well known company to PC enthusiasts and PC builders. Scythe Co., Ltd., (Registered and incorporated in Tokyo Japan) originally started its business operation in Japan’s famous “Akihabara Electric Town” located in the metropolitan Tokyo, where visitors can find a variety of products from the latest computer parts to the world’s most advanced high-tech electric devices. Sythe Co., Ltd., began its operation and business since November, 2002 as a distributor and the manufacturer of passive and low-noise PC parts. Since then, the company has established the R&D facility in Taiwan & China for production and quality control, and the USA office (in Los Angeles, California) & European office (in Hamburg, Germany) for customer care and sales support.

Sometime ago, Scythe introduced a new CPU cooler called Fuma 2, that follows the design principle of its predecessor and offers a powerful twin-tower radiator with a completely revised, asymmetrical design. Six high-quality 6 mm heatpipes connect the two heat sinks to the solid copper base plate. All copper parts were lavishly nickel plated. The asymmetric orientation and a recess on the back of the second cooling-block allow unrestricted use of all memory banks. The Fuma 2 comes with two PWM fans from the popular Kaze Flex series. In addition to a regular model, a new slim version with a frame width of 15 mm is also used. The Fuma 2 uses the principle of the “Dual Fan Reverse Airflow” design, in which the fans rotate in opposite directions. This creates a higher static pressure and an increased and more stable air flow. To further maximize cooling performance, an additional fan can be mounted. The required mounting brackets are included.

Today we will examine what users can expect and if its a product worth you money.

- Features

Twin-Tower-Design

The classic twin-tower design of the Fuma 2 is not centered directly above the CPU socket, but offset by inclined heatpipes. This asymmetrical design provides maximum space for the memory banks. Also the cooling fins of the second tower are aligned in such a way that even memory banks on both sides of the CPU socket can be operated without problems, without restricting the effectiveness of the heat sink. Despite the enormous cooling surface, the Fuma 2 remains at a height of only 154.5 mm and fits into any standard PC case.

Dual Fan Reverse Airflow

The Fuma 2 CPU cooler comes with two fans, a Kaze Flex 120 and a Kaze Flex Slim 120, which rotate in opposite directions. This creates a higher static pressure and an increased and more stable air flow. Furthermore a third fan can be mounted for extra power. Additional fan brackets are included.

Kaze Flex PWM Fans

Both the regular model as well as the Kaze Flex Slim fan use a sealed fluid dynamic bearing (Sealed Precision FDB) that reduces friction and wear to a minimum thanks to a special oil film. Rubberized pads covering the frame have a decoupling effect and prevent the transmission of noise and vibrations.

H.P.M.S. III (Hyper Precision Mounting System III)

The Fuma 2 CPU cooler uses the proven H.P.M.S III mounting system. A pre-assembled mounting bar with spring-loaded screws ensures balanced pressure distribution. During the installation, the adaptable back plate is securely held to the mainboard by rubberized spacers, making the process considerably easier. The mounting system offers full compatibility with all current sockets including AMD’s AM4 and Intel’s LGA 2066.
