LG Inrtoduces New LA9700 Ultra HDTV Series

LG Inrtoduces New LA9700 Ultra HDTV Series

Consumer Electronics Jul 12,2013 0

Just a couple of days after Samsung Electronics presented its new UHDTVs in the U.S. Market, LG Electronics on Friday LG Electronics started to roll out the LA9700 series, which includes 55- and 65-inch models. Initially introduced in South Korea last month, the two LA9700 series ULTRA HD TVs were rolled out in the United States this week and will be followed by introductions in overseas markets such as the U.K., Russia and Australia.

The 55- and 65-inch ULTRA HD TVs promise to produce incredibly sharp images with a resolution of 8.3 million pixels per frame. The Tru-ULTRA HD Engine maximizes image clarity and provides up-scaling of any video format in near-ULTRA HD quality. Additionally, LG's LA9700 models are equipped with NANO FULL LED backlighting which results in deeper blacks and consistent brightness and contrast. With the inclusion of LG's In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels, the new TVs deliver accurate color expression across a wide, 178 degree viewing angle.

Both LA9700 models offer 4.1 channel, 50-watt surround sound systems which include the forward-facing Sliding Speakers. Alternatively, the Sliding Speaker can be set to extend automatically when the TV is turned on, and retract when powered off. A subwoofer is also located behind the TV?s screen.

The LA9700 series will also incorporate the new H.265 high efficiency video coding (HEVC) decoder, making these models forward-compatible if content providers begin to utilize this new standard for encoding broadcast or streaming content.

LG's Smart TV platform provides access to a wide range of applications and content services from around the globe. The company's Magic Remote boasts natural language recognition, point, wheel, and gesture control options, making it easy to navigate menus, search for content or play exciting Smart TV games. What's more, SmartShare offers the simplicity of Tag On (LG's NFC-based device pairing feature), and the convenience of WiDi and Miracast screen mirroring. And the LA9700's Now On function recommends content based on the user's viewing patterns and previous program purchases.

The new LA9700 models carry a suggested price of $7,999 for the 65-inch and $6,999 for the 55-inch model in the United States. This means that LG has chosen to price its lineup higher than both Sony and Samsung's equivalent offerings.

LG showcased an 84-inch Ultra HD TV last August for the first time in the world. Samsung Electronics, the world's top flat screen TV maker, and Sony followed suit. The 84-inch class LG model is available for $19,999.

The global market for Ultra HD TVs is forecast to grow rapidly down the road with worldwide shipments expected to reach 3.9 million units next year, earlier data showed.

Worldwide shipments of Ultra HD TVs are expected to hit 6.88 million units in 2015 and 9.87 million units in 2016, according to the data by DisplaySearch. For this year, around 930,000 Ultra HD TVs are expected to be shipped, it said.
