Disc4You announces 120mins CDs!!

General Interest Feb 24,2001 0

"...In the past we had already once succeeded in breaking through as insurmountably valid capacity boundary of 80 minutes for a CD-Blank. The result was the 99-Mins CD-R providing for attention. This mark had to actually believe by us set up the new, by the technical literature for boundary insurmountably held to: Our self-developed XXL Silberlinge offers a storage capacity of sayful 120 minutes!

Disc4You will present the result of our complex research and the global compatibility tests with almost all current drives to punctual to the CeBIT 2001: The Disc4You-XXL-CD-R. With 120 minutes storage capacity offers it to workstation for approximately 22 hours of music in the MP3-Format or a complete feature in the MPEG-1-Format - the alternative to storing of on fixed disk taken up films or videos.

Both PadusDJ and CDRWin 4.0 supports 120min CDs. The new media is not expected to ship until June 2001. The price for a 120min blank CDs would be around 2DM (0.93$)..."

As far we know 120min CDs are supported only through special firmware and from specific CDR-W drives (Mitsumi 4804TE). We will have to wait and see if the manufacturers will support the 120min CDs media platform. The 1.3GB storage (of 120min CDs) really gives users much choices over the upcoming DDCD format (Sony) and Multi Level recording (TDK,Plextor) :) NULL
