Dell Joins DVD+RW Alliance

Dell Joins DVD+RW Alliance

Optical Storage Jun 27,2001 0

The DVD+RW Alliance, a group of companies committed to the benefits of the DVD+RW format, today announced the addition of Dell to its ranks. The group made the announcement during a media and analyst event at PC Expo/Tech Expo 2001, where DVD+RW products and discs were demonstrated. "Dell focuses on delivering the best technology to our customers. We feel that DVD+RW is the ideal format for customers who want a complete solution for creating custom videos on DVD or easily storing large capacity data. We fully support the DVD+RW Alliance's mission to provide a truly compatible rewritable DVD standard for our customers who want the most from their rewritable DVD drives.'' said Gerry Smith, vice president, worldwide procurement for storage at Dell. DVD+R and DVD+RW discs will offer up to seven times the storage capacity of a CD-R, can be written and read by DVD+RW drives, and can be played back in the majority of DVD-ROM drives and DVD video players in use today. Because of this, the DVD+RW Alliance believes DVD+R/RW is the logical extension of CD-R/RW technology and will enable a new level of convergence for digital video between personal computers and consumer electronics products.
