Once considered the ultimate in geekdom, liquid cooling (also known as water cooling) has become almost mainstream. For those pushing the envelope, there's high performance (and high cost) kits from retailers such as Danger Den, DTek, or Swiftech. However, those kits usually require either a great deal of patience, or experience, during installation. For those less schooled in the art of exotic cooling, your choices are fairly limited. While there are no shortage of pre-fabbed kits, both internal and external, marketed at the novice, these kits usually forego quality to make themselves as easy to install and user friendly as possible.

The Zalman Reserator XT offers more than your typical external water cooling system. It includes detailed gauges and sensors for the avid water cooler wanting to know what's going on. It also allows, with ease, the support for additional water blocks. Don't worry about remembering to refill this system because it will tell you when it's thirsty. Read on further to see what other features the Reserator XT has to offer.

Given their nature, external water-coolers have a lot of room to do things right. Zalman took full advantage of the space they had with the XT and delivered a superb external solution with excellent performance. Though slightly expensive, "you get what you pay for" rings true here.

With its new hybrid cooling design for the XT, Zalman has lost the traditional silence of the previous Reserator systems, but gained significant cooling performance. The Reserator XT is indeed a worthy successor to the Reserators of the past and boasts easy installation, attractive styling and superb materials and workmanship. Digital monitoring of fluid temperature and fan/pump speed control are welcome features, and the mechanical flow indicator adds a visual confirmation of coolant flow rates as well.

Zalman continues their reputation for quality products with the new Reserator XT. The Reserator line finally gets active cooling to compliment its passive cooling with positive results. The Reserator XT is built to be as quiet as possible, but those who don't mind the extra noise are still able to manually increase the fan and pump speed to squeeze a little more performance out of it. Zalman continues to bring top quality water cooling to inexperienced and experienced users, and the Reserator XT is no exception.

Water cooling rigs have come and gone over the years, along with the companies that make them. Zalman has been one of the few who made it, and they have done so due to the quality of the products they produce. Not only is the quality good, the performance is excellent. The water cooling unit up for review is the Zalman Reserator XT, which is a stand-alone water cooling system that sits outside an enclosure. This design keeps the hot temperature of the enclosure components away from the reservoir. Also, the Reserator XT is highly expandable by allowing the user to add additional water blocks without having to drain the entire cooling system. Everything needed to get the cooling system up and running is included in one package.
