"At CES Cameron and I paid a visit to QNAP?s booth to take a look at several new NAS appliances and servers the company launched at the show. Little did we know that the new product lineup would be so extensive, almost a top to bottom refresh. The first of the new dual core Intel Atom products has been here for a month now and I have to come right out and say that I am very impressed. It is a good thing too since the TS-419P TurboNAS we reviewed last year didn?t fare as well as we were hoping.
Even though the TS-419P and TS-459 look nearly identical outside, the two are completely different inside. The 419P used a Marvell processor and in our testing we felt that it and the firmware held the NAS back from performing as well as it could have. The latest run of firmware from QNAP and the new dual core Atom processor have now cleared those issues, but it comes at a higher initial cost to users. We will touch more on the cost and the additional productivity in the conclusion."

"The QNAP NMP-1000 is actually one of the better media players we have tested here at Legit Reviews. Never before have we seen a player on the market that has as many features and functions that is packed in this QNAP media player. After using the unit for a few weeks, we can see why QNAP chose the name NMP - or "Network Multimedia Player". "After looking around it was clear that most consumers NAS servers were all in the same boat, great specifications for the entire NAS except for the processor. QNAP has taken note and has just released the new TS-419P Turbo NAS with a 1.2 GHz processor that is bound to perform better than the slower offerings from others.

Today we are moving the spot light to NAS Servers with the QNAP TS-509 Pro. The 509 isn't designed to sit in an enthusiast's computer room, but many will eventually end up being used by power users like myself. If the Thecus N4100PRO impressed you with features, prepare to be blown away. The TS-509 Pro goes far beyond anything a normal consumer or prosumer would ever use under normal circumstances. The good thing is that QNAP has mastered ease of use when it comes to configuration. Many features that you may have passed off as unusable for your situation will eventually get used because they are just so easy in implement.

Overall, this is an excellent showing from QNAP. In as little as one afternoon, it is possible to set up a network surveillance system that can be monitored from any computer with an internet connection. Versatility is also a strong suit - cameras can use a wired or wireless connection, recording can take place on any day and time you wish, and external drives can be attached for backup or to increase storage capacity.
