We promise we won't be insulted if you think we've cocked things up and run the wrong price for this LCD TV. In fact, the first time we heard the price we couldn't believe it either. A 32in LCD TV from a big name brand for just £700? Surely some mistake. But no. We've checked and double checked, and the RZ-32LZ55 really can be had from a number of online vendors for £700 - the sort of price that would even be considered cheap on a 26in LCD, never mind a 32in one. So is this the LCD world's biggest pre-World Cup bargain, or does its price come at the cost of quality? Read on to find out...

The irresistible rise of LCD has caused nothing short of a complete sea-change in the fortunes of Korean giant LG Electronics. Before LCD struck gold, LG was largely perceived in the UK as a second-tier budget brand that simply couldn't compete with the big-boys like Sony and Panasonic. These days, thanks to its efforts with LCD, LG sells vast quantities of TVs in the UK and has earned a handy reputation for combining innovation and style with some very tidy pricing. So here's hoping its new 32LX2R continues the trend. Read on...

LG is thinking out of the box with their L1981Q 19-inch Flatron monitor. With design in mind, the L1981Q is the slimmest monitor we have seen. The L1981Q also has a number of innovative features such as heat sensitive controls, a neck that folds down flat so you can hang the monitor on the wall without removing it, and inputs that are embedded in the stand, not the back of the display. The LG L1981Q won last years' 2005 reddot Design Award for this very reason. Those wanting a little style on their desk will find the L1981Q as the center of attention many times over. Innovation doesn't come cheaply however as you can expect to pay around $600 dollars for this beauty...

The LG FLATRON L1932P is a midrange 19" LCD display with a quoted 4ms response time. Its native resolution is standard for a 19" display at 1280x1024 which is perhaps a little low for those intent on high resolution gaming but is otherwise ample for pretty much all its potential uses. You'd generally have to move to a 20" display to get yourself 1600x1200"...

The 19in LG Flatron M1910A looks good on your desk, has a decent set of speakers, and comes with a competitive price for an LCD TV of this size. Sadly, this is overshadowed by a mediocre picture quality and the absence of a DVI port...

The LGDVB418 has a very low profile at 1.52" tall. It appears even slimmer because the area below the control panel is recessed from the front and is black in color. The main controls, display, and disc tray are on the control panel which is silver, framed in chrome. At first glance you may not notice that there are memory card slots because they fade into the recessed area below. The front panel display is very easy to read due to a bright VF dot matrix display. The overall appearance is very attractive...

For the LG GSA-4167B, the drive has demonstrated that it is a fast reader of both CD and DVD media and quite a reasonably fast seeker as well. As reported by DVD Decrypter and Nero CD DAE, decrypting DVD movies and Audio CDs are tasks that should be easily within the stride of the drive. However, it should be noted the pace at which the LG drive does these tasks are much slower than a BenQ DW1640 and a Pioneer DVRA09XLA. On a more positive note however, zero errors were registered by the few extraction utilities used, indicating the ripping proficiency and quality possessed by the LG drive...

The LG1980Q is an absolutely gorgeous looking monitor. On the exterior, the shiny silver is sleek looking, and the white rear of the monitor seems to contrast perfectly. The screen itself is extremely thin, and very versatile. The monitor output looked wonderful while gaming with no ghosting noticed to cramp the experience...

Overall, LG's Flatron L1750H does little to inspire in the design department, but the image quality and price sit squarely enough in the middle-of-the-road to make it a viable option.

Overall, the LG Flatron L1740P isn't perfect, but then so many monitors aren't, especially for this price bracket. The picture has to be tamed a little, there's a distinct colour shift in the vertical plane, and the controls are a tad tricky to use. But once they've been overcome, it's really only the stand's lack of adjustability that has to be weighed up against the L1740P's good looks. Personally, I'm swayed by substance over a style, but for the truly image conscious this could be the one.
