The front of the case is extra shiny and really will fit in with a home theater or other media type application. The chrome-like trim gives nice accents all around. There is a single button for power-on with a lighted ring of light and a LED for ATA activity. The front of the case allows for a single laptop size optical drive and has hidden ports for a card reader as well as audio, USB, and Firewire.

We have received one of AOpens older products for reviewing. The product is the G325 case, which is a small case designed for micro ATX motherboards. AOpen labels the case as a Gaming Case. The G325 is a nice little case. The only thing missing is the possibility for mounting a fan to cool the harddrives. As it is now, the only thing producing airflow is the fan on the PSU, which might be insufficient for powerful setups, resulting in a high temperature inside the case.

AOpen has added some cool finishing touches to its SFF chassis, like the plastic washers on the thumbscrews so you don't scratch the paint, and the foam across the front and inside so everything transports without breaking or scratching amongst other things. However, we can't help but feel that AOpen needs to go back to the drawing board to iron out the XC Cube's kinks because it's just not 100 percent there yet. The insides need to be organised better for improved airflow and the rear I/O panel needs to be re-planned. Once these problems have been addressed and providing that AOpen carries over everything that's good about the current design, the company might have something as good as, if not better than, Shuttle's trend-setting XPC range.

The AOpen miniPC MP945-VX is built with Intel's very reliable 945GM and ICH7M chipsets (a pair of mobile core logic), and supports the Intel Core Duo Socket 478 mobile processor family. Everything else is based on notebook hardware which is compact, cool running, and quiet. The barebones AOpen miniPC MP945-VX system does not include a processor, memory or hard drive but does come with everything else including a dual layer slot loading DVD burner and wireless LAN.

The AOpen 18x Triple Format DVD Rewriter (DSW1812P) is one of the few recordable DVD drives on that market that supports every single recordable DVD format there is - we're talking DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD+R Dual Layer and DVD-R Dual Layer. But wait, that's not all! With the AOpen DSW1812P drive you also get the Chameleon Bezel, AOpens' mysterious "Silent Technology" and fabled UDMA66 transfer speeds! And if you act now, AOpen will also include CD-R, CD-RW, and regular CD-ROM compatibility!!!

At first glance, the AOpen i945Ga-PHS socket 775 Intel Pentium 4 motherboard is a pretty well rounded platform, it even supports HDTV component output (Y, Pb, Pr) by default! Based on the Intel's i945G Northbridge, the AOpen i945Ga-PHS motherboard supports Socket 775 Pentium 4/D/XE and Celeron processors running with a 533/800/1066 MHz FSB. The four DDR2 memory slots can accommodate up to 4GB of PC2-6400 unbuffered DDR-2 RAM, while running in a dual channel configuration...

AOpen seems to be a firm believer in the small form factor (SFF) and has released a wider range of systems than anyone else, bar Shuttle of course. This latest creation from AOpen differs from the ones we've seen in the past, not only because it's using a Pentium M platform, but also because it's about half the height of previous SFF systems we've seen from AOpen. The MZ915-M is one of the smallest SFF systems currently available and measures in at an impressively tiny 200 x 106 x 320mm (WxHxD)...

What can you say about a 7800GTX? The most powerful video card on the market at this time certainly did not disappoint in this review and managed to make me look twice at certain results. The AOpen Aeolus 7800GTX-DVD256 is not a lot different from any of the other 7800GTX cards out there and is pretty much identical to the other manufacturers such as EVGA, XFX, and BFG brands. They are simply clones of each other with just different logos on the HS/Fan assembly. The KO version from EVGA comes clocked at 490/1300 and this Aeolus 7800GTX had no problem reaching those speeds and more. The overclocking of this card was very good and, after reading some reviews and talking with other 7800GTX owners, I realized that the 505/1350 I was able to achieve is higher than most of these cards will go...

The AOpen Nouveau will be perfect for the average gamer who may do some mild to medium overclocking and is looking for that elegant and clean external look and feel. With most cases that are deemed 'elegant' comes an impressive price tag. The Nouveau currently carries a price tag of over US$150.00 with the 350 Watt PSU included. However, if you are like me, most of my case purchasing decision for my next LAN rig is based on if the case positively captivates my attention... and the Nouveau did just that!

All things considered, this AOpen i945Pa-PLF is a pretty rockin' board for a $130 bucks. The included bundle is a bit lacking, but the board showed solid performance throughout the testing. Coupled with a nice color scheme and roomy layout, I'd have to give this board two thumbs up. It's only downside is really the lack of RAID and small bundle. And it's high point has to be the overclockability of the board. Surpassing even our i955 based motherboard here, we were genuinely impressed...

The AOpen Prima Power AO700-12ALN is a rather plain looking power supply, but one which has the ability to deliver a massive 700W of power and four separate 12V rails! To sweeten things, the AO700-12ALN is also very quiet thanks to the large 120mm fan generating 28.4 dBA at maximum RPM. The most impressive feature of the AOpen Prima Power AO700-12ALN are its quad +12V rails, all four of which have a maximum rating of 15 Amps. The +3.3V, +5V and the four +12V rails can output a maximum of 680W and the total peak output of the power supply is 700W at an internal temperature of 35 degrees Celsius...

What can we say about the 6600-DV128LP after all this testing? The most obvious thing is that this card isn't meant to be used in a gaming environment. You don't exactly buy a passively cooled product and hope for extreme cooling. Instead, this is the type of product one would want inside an HTPC. While going with a 6600 core, AOpen allows you to play some games on your HDTV. The performance isn't exactly what I would call shabby. Priced at 139 dollars, it's exactly where you would expect to see a product of this nature. Going up a couple of bucks you'll find things like the X700 Pro or the 6600 GT, but nothing that offers the same silence as the 6600-DV128LP...
