they cheated, I have yet to try it but from what I understand its more of a switch tool than anything.

Ok, I installed this firmware upgrade, it will let you to keep the current setting (DVD+R/-R burning) or DVD+R/DL+R.... If you need -R you can revert back without any problems. They will release a 'full firmware' later but this should keep us happy for now.

I havent actually burned any DL with it, but DVDINFO does detect DL support after I have applied the firmware.

One thing that does suck is that the current Booktype Manager Software (bitsettings) does not let you set the DVD+R DL setting to DVD-ROM!!! I hope this is fixed soon - anyway I did email Benq asking them about this. Will let you guys know what they say when/if they reply.

Any other info is appreciated!

bc_shooter thanks for the info, we will post the news shortly at the main page, lets hope they will fix this problem with the booktype manager, maybe they just have to release a newer version of booktype manager to support the new features of DW822A

Anyone knows if its possible (yet?) to bitset Benq DW822A Dual Layer as DVD-ROM?

I tried it, but the current BOOKTYPE MANAGER software (8.3) won't let me!

I think that the bitsetting for DW822A DL should be at DVD-ROM directly, haven't tested it however myself

Hmm, it should. I tested v8.3 on a 800@830 and it showed both +R and DL settings as DVD-ROM.
