Benq DW822A to burn Dual Layer DVDs? - 9/15/2004 1:57:18 PM

Hi,
When I bought my DW822A drive the ad said it would have a firmeware upgrade that would allow it to burn dual layer DVDs. Does anyone know where Benq is concerning this? When is the next firmware due out for this drive?

Ok, BenQ says it'll be out at the end of September, or possibly the beginning of October. It hasn't quite been finalized yet, and is still under their testing phase.

Perhaps they ran into a few snags they weren't expecting? or maybe they were spending too much time developing for the 1600 series of drives? but whatever the reason, the firmware is still on it's way, and all the DW822a owners have not been forgotten.

BenQ replied "...Regarding to the firmware for DW822A, the target release date is around the end of this month and the beginning of October. However, for DW830A, we have NEVER announced and planned that there is an upgrade firmware for DW830A to support minus burning. Please help to clarify it if there is query, thank you very much!..."

thats good to know emperor, i was wondering about that too.
822 should be a much better burner then. I hope they take there time and come out with an improved firmware not like the half fast b7h9 for the 1620.

Hopefully BenQ will improve this...

Its rather interesting, that Philips 1640P (BenQ DW1620A OEM) reduced writing speeds to 8X after we posted our BenQ DW1620A review...

Funny, that's almost word for word what they told me!

(with the exception of the DW830a stuff)
