well I guess there is comfort in knowing i'm not the only one with this issue.  i am pleased it is working.... even though its a little lighter its still very different then anything else out there...I emailed HP as well if i here anything from them i'll post it thanks for the help.

i mailed then also. yes it is indeed unique. this saves me on printing using ink and buying labels! this is definately a good invention.

do you have the 640i or the external one? curious.. also do you have the latest firmware on your drive?

I have the internal dvd640i, I downloaded there firmware update as well as there print driver update.... I did get an email back from HP, I think it makes some sense:

that does indeed make sense! it does offer a 3d type effect as well.

the updates dont add anything i have noticed except that it does not give the error message when you start the LS burn. this could be me but i think they are a tad darker than the LS disks i burned before they released the update i mentioned...

myscout, did you burn and LS dvds before you did the updates? how do the ones before and after compare?

I burned right out of the box then with firmware update then with the print engine upgrade the DVD+Rs all looked the same to me. I 'burned' up through almost a have pack of 30 Verbatim DVD+R thinking it was something I was doing tring differnent designs etc, but from this Forum I now know it wasn't just me this time!!!

yes thank GOD for forums... i thought i was the only one on this forum who cared or even had the HP drive. i pretty much did the same thing as you did.. i woudl like for them to be darker but it seems due to the coating on the top we have to live with it.

perhaps ill try some othr LS dvd media when it comes out to see if they print the same way. i would rather use verbatim though...

I can live with it for now...I have made a few DVD's for family and friends and they all have loved the new look...(I guess the LS DVD's are even cooler if you're naive to the fact that the image could be darker!  lol ) 

I've had the same thoughts about finding a couple of 10-packs of differnent media, if you do let me know the out come and i'll do the same.

exactly! its all in the coolness of it! ive since burned about 8 or 10 thus far and counting. im glad wally world has the verbatims in stock so i can just pick them up when i get some grapes .....

yeah i have not seen any but i know memorex (yuck) will have some out so ill try them...

Have you tried burning the label twice? I read this somewhere and tried it myself.  The image does get darker.
However, there is little to no difference on the third and subsequent burns.

By the way, don't worry about the images not lining up.  They will if you use the same template.

didnt know you could reburn it.. i guess i figured the disc wrote some code on it to let the player know its already been burned.. kinda like the disc T@2 from yamaha...

ill try it on my next disc i burn but i dont want to spend upwards of an hour to burn one image per disc... im satisfied with what i have personally....

anyone know when the benq dw1625 will fall in price? it's virtually the same as the dw1620 but twice the price.

also didn't hp say that ls media will cost only a few pennies more than normal media. ls 8x dvd+r costs £1 a piece whereas a non-ls 16x dvd-r (verbatim) costs only £0.32.

dl media is already quite expensive as is. putting another layer of dye and (even worse) an ls sticker would make the price just laughable
