Hi all,
Thanks for the suggestion to try version 2.23.  Unfortunately I didn't have any success with it.  I'm glad to hear that some of you did though!  I guess I'll have to hold out until there's another release from NEC, if I'm ever to burn my Memorex and Fuji 16x DVD's on this drive.   Or, maybe it's time to buy a new drive to replace this one....

thanks again
NP

Hi friend! I don't think that you can expect many new firmware from NEC for 6500 series

ashvin83 -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (8/30/2006 12:03:41 AM)

hey emperor. I have a weird problem with my nec nd-6500a drive. When i try to flash it with any firmware a message appears, saying "target not found properly."

Can you help me out?

tqhoang -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (8/30/2006 10:05:37 AM)

Suggest you use the latest version of Liggy's Binflash.
http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/6500/

Also do NOT try to flash between 2.xx and 4.xx firmwares.  The difference between them is to control the master/slave mode of the drives.  If your drive is working with either 2.xx or 4.xx, then stick with that major version number.

Latest writing strategies are in the Dell firmwares 203d / 403d.

Start by seeing if there is a firmware update for your drive...

GustavoRio -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (1/16/2007 8:49:57 PM)

Hi all,

I know this is a kinda old topic but i have a HP Pavillion ZD 7000 notebook with a nd-6450 DVD RW drive. I've followed the tutorials posted in the forum and haven't yet been able to record DVD DL. There has been a consistent error which has compromised several of my media.

The reason i'm asking this so late in the game is because only recently have I needed to use the recorder for a dual layer media. For the record, i'm using dvd shrink in the encoding/burning process.

Show i update the driver of the dvd prior to flashing it with new firmware?

Many thanks

tqhoang -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (1/17/2007 12:30:18 PM)

Read my post above.  After flashing the latest ND-6500 firmware 203e (master for 2.xx firmwares) or 403e (slave for 4.xx firmwares), you need to use Liggy's Drive Converter and toggle your drive's ID to be an ND-6500.  Highly suggest you only use Verbatim DVD+R DL media.
http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/6500/

Also if you or anyone else has purchased new 16x media, then you should learn to use Media Code Speed Edit (MCSE) and DVD Identifier to customize your target firmware with the necessary Media ID's.

Hello friends!

I'm new to this, so please forgive me if I ask something I should not or should have known before hand.

I read the 1st page of this thread thoroughly, but I have a few questions. I have a NEC ND-6500A drive on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo A1630 laptop. The firmware version is 2.40 as both Nero InfoTool and Necflash report. 1st question: Do I need to update the firmware? If so, to which version? What would a newer firmware do for me or the drive?

The reason why I ended here is because of late I haven't been able to burn DVD which are 16X speed regardless of the brand, which I figured are too new for my firmware. I'm able to burn without problems 8X DVD of the same brand or others. The problem is that those old DVDs are sold out, and now am faced with the problem of either updating the firmware, or hunting old DVD media.

Now, I figured the problem has to be on the firmware, since I've explored and exhausted all other possibilities. If I've missed something, please let me know...

PS: I'm not sure, but it seems this Forum has problems with Firefox (I couldn't get to write the post at all), and had to use Internet Explorer to write this post. Is the forum supposed to be used with IE only? And I'm running Vista Ultimate 32-bit, although I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Oceanborn13 -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (3/10/2007 3:18:42 AM)

Nevermind the previous message. I solved the problem a few weeks ago, after getting tired of no one answering. I managed to successfully flash my drive with 2.25, and so far it's been working very well.

As they say: "If you want to get something done, DO IT YOURSELF!!!"

i was facing the very same problem (i also happens to have the same computer brand and likewise firmware 2.40).
i flashed it first with 225bt_orig.bin taken from liggy, ...it works alright for several people apparently. Whatever,
the first 16X DVD i burned went alright, then i turned down my laptop. The next day (after a reboot then) each
time i tryed to burn a similar DVD (or other brands for that matter, TDK, VERBATIM, PHILIPS, TRAXDATA)
my burning software would remain stuck during the caching process (eventually display an error) and my burner
would disappear from my laptop! = /
i finally resorted to use the NEC firmware 2.25 and so far it works alright, so my advice USE THE ORIGINAL
FIRMWARE FIRST, and if you're not satisfied THEN LOOK ELSEWHERE!

hope my experience will be useful to you =)

I'm facing the same problem. I have the 2.4 firmware and therefore I can't use 16X DVDs, it doesn't recognize them. I already downloaded the 2.25 firmware from NEC and tried to update both in "normal"-mode and in safe mode. The problem is that I only get an error message that states "Target NEC ND-6500A is not found correctly". What is my problem?

The NEC-unit has been mounted in my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo 1300 when it was about a year old so it isn't the original station. I pursuaded the service personnel to upgrade to a DL at the same time when they had to change out the original unit on the warranty (it had failed).

amilo -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (8/21/2007 8:24:18 AM)

Never mind, I fixed it myself. Anyhow, I'll describe the solution, perhaps someone else can benefit from it.

It was the original update-file downloaded that caused the problem, it probably has trouble updating from 2.4 to 2.25??
I read some more on the forum and then downloaded the same firmware (2.25) from Liggy's and Dee's and then the Binflash-program.

Now my station works like a charm!

SithTracy -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (8/21/2007 10:45:51 AM)

I was not aware that a laptop drive could burn at 16x... I am pretty sure, though I don't own one, that it only rights SL media at 8x max.  I think that is in the very first post in this thread.

amilo -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (8/21/2007 11:41:38 AM)

Sorry if i didn't make myself clear. Of course I can't burn any faster than 8x because it is the maximum burning speed for DVD's, my problem was that the drive didn't accept newer media that is certified for up to 16x. It's getting hard to find 8x DVD's nowdays. I had a stack of 1-16x TDK discs that I haven't been  able to use before. I ordered them via the internet and when I complained about having to buy more discs because the ones I ordered din't work, they sent me a new order plus 50 extra discs as compensation....:)
