cptdodgermuk -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (3/22/2006 4:39:41 PM)

update to how i got on:-

Tried the drive in 2 different laptops that were all able to detect it in the bios and windows, they were a HP Omnibook 6000 and a Compaq Presario 2400. The following was done on both machines with the same results. Booted to DOS, ran necflash -scan and reported no drive could be found therefore the 6500boot wouldnt work. Tried TDB's 6x00A flasher and it worked in DOS on both machines.

So in all, this ND-6500A has failed to work on a desktop and 2 laptops, all of which detected the drive in BIOS and Windows. I therefore had not option to carry out the hardware fix as described in previous posts and this drive now works fine in my Easynote K5

Why your drive isn't working? I haven''t understood.... You need to install a CD/DVD software in order to be able to use it.

Hi,

First and foremost, thanks to those who as so that I myself can find the answers from those who provide them.

I have the NEC 6500A and had flashed to 2.24 but the device was never able to show 8x on neroinfotool. However I repalced it with 2.02C but not the drive shows 24x write capabilities. How did it jump from 8x to 24x? Or am I reading that incorrectly?  Thanks.

Hi!
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with a NEC 6500A.

On this device is the Firmware 2.03D.
Is it possible to flash the 2.24(Liggy), so that i can change the book type?

How can I see if my device is master or slave?

THX 4 your answer

Hello everybody,

I have a NEC6500A CDRW/DL DVD+-RW. I had to reinstall windows operating system and after that my system is detecting as TSL462C CDRW/DVD rom. Is there any way to fix this and make my system recognize it as DVDRW. Any help will be appreciated.

FYI

I have a Dell Latitude D810 with a NEC ND-6500a drive, which came with firmware 203c.  I purchased a 50 pack spindle of Imation DVD-R 16x disks that the drive would reject as bad.  I flashed the drive to firmware 203d from the Dell sight and now I can use the disks, no errors at all!

emperor -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (6/9/2006 3:38:33 AM)

You can go back and forth with Binflash software

oscarr -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (7/4/2006 4:22:45 PM)

Hi,
I have a nd-6500a in my acer and winxp also doesn't boot and the drive is not detected in the bios.
I installed the drive into my desktop comp. with a converter and tried the 6500boot but i get errors like "drive not found" or "another error"
I connected the drive as master and also tried as slave but no joy.
The firmware is 203d right now, but also tried 2.58 and 2.22..
Help! :)

alexmacris -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (7/5/2006 5:52:11 AM)

Hi friend! I had installed a NEC 6500 to my old laptop and worked great, the catch is that NEC slim drives need to be master.... So if your laptop has only one IDE channel, and HDD is already master, there is a confict! You can use the reversed ATA firmware either found at this thread or at http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com they have a good archive and instructions how to do it, if you flash with reversed ATA firmware you cannot go back

Neptune Perkins -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (7/21/2006 11:45:56 AM)

Hey Emperor.

I, too, have an NEC ND-6500A drive and I've flashed the frimware umpteen times (thanks for all your advice and file attachments...really made this stuff easy for me).  But, with the lastest firmware (2.24 and liggy's 2.24 and dell's 2.03d) I still can't burn any of the media I have...says bad media.  (Fuji 16x, Memorex 16x, Kodak 16x)  Burning works on the older, slower media I have, so I'm sure it's not a drive problem.  I was wondering if you knew, or could tell me where to look, to figure out how to hack the firmware myself to add the media codes for all of the media I have.  Maybe I'll even take submissions from people just as frustrated as me and put all the media I can into the firmware so that everyone is happy.  Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks the Emperor, Liggy and everyone else who's provided insight and know how in this thread.  Much appreciated!!

Neptune Perkins

digisonix -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (7/21/2006 11:48:04 PM)

I was also having the same problem burning 16x media. I wasted like 5 or more Dvd's (as it turned out they were still blank, never even burned). I think the problem was the latest firmware 2.24, i decided to go with v2.23 and now my drive burns all my media. Hope this solves your prob.

alexmacris -> RE: NEC ND-6500A official firmware overview (7/22/2006 5:50:26 AM)

Hi friends! I do believe that the problem is the firmware, try the 2.23 and see if will solve your problems

stupidgenius -> RE: NEC 6500 official firmware overview 26/10/2004 Updated! (7/23/2006 9:26:17 PM)

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with the ND-6500A burner with Dell's 2.03d firmware installed. I've never had any problems with this burner in the past. I recently bought some new Sony DVD-R 16x media for use in all my computers, and my Dell is not able to burn to those discs. I tried some other cheap Dynex 16x discs I had laying around and those failed too. I don't have any DVD+R discs or slower DVD-R discs available to try. I have tried a Memorex 4x DVD+RW disc and it was able to burn to that. I've tried several versions of the firmware and nothing has enabled it to burn to the 16x media I have. (I know my burner only burns at 8x, but I have the 16x media because i have a 16x burner in another pc)

Is there an issue with the ND-6500A that doesn't allow you to burn to 16x media? If so, can a firmware up/downgrade solve this and if so, what version?

Here is my nero error log
(the second dvd drive is a virtual dvd drive created by daemon tools, ignore that)

Hi friend! As i checked 2.03d seems to be the latest firmware for your drive. Since Sony 16X DVD-R media doesn't work, i don't expect and improvement, so the best case would be simply to use different media[;)]
