Hi ssiu and welcome to our forums,

Let me explain something here...2.17 of Herrie is the same firmware as MadDog 2.F8 (renamed to the NEC ID)...Even the newest official 2.17 firmware update is better since it has newer firmware strategies. Personally i haven't tested yet the v2.C8 to be sure about te real performance, i also heard some issues, but already TDK has announced v2.C9 on the run...

About the flashing, I think there is a limit, maybe 255 times, i don't assume you are flashing every day your recorder[8|]

ssiu -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/14/2004 1:56:49 AM)

Thank you for the quick reply. This reply clear my questions. I think I'll go for the 2c8se. Just like you said I won't flash my drive very often. 255 time is a lot. So I shouldn't worry about the limit of times allow. Thanks again!

you welcome![8D]

Hello.

I have just purchased the ND-3500 and am now looking to flash it. I have searched here and elsewhere and have downloaded a heap of firmware, now I dont know which to use. I just want RPC1 and RIPLOCK removed. From what I have read everyone is recommending 2.17 Herrie. Is your 2.17SE here the Herrie one, if not what is the difference?

I know similar questions have been asked many times, but there are just so many differnt answers and firmwares that I am now more confused than when I started.

Thanks Les.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/18/2004 9:07:58 AM)

Just use either the 2.17SE or v2.C8 SE, Herrie's 2.17 doesn't include RPC1 and Riplock

Thanks for the quick reply its just that I came across this at club.cdfreaks.com and I thought it might be the same firmware.

TDK 1616 v2.77 firmware has been converted into NEC 3500 2.17 firmware
I also made it RPC1 and removed Riplock P.s.: This version has official support for RITEK D01 Dual Layer media!

Binary Version (Use Liggy's excellent NECFlash utility under Command Line, Mac OS or *nix with this file )

Windows GUI Flasher

Have fun!

Others at the site have been flashing there 3500's with it and saying all restrictions lifted

Sorry for the above questions. I just notice that ssiu asked practically the same question as me.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/18/2004 4:52:31 PM)

Ok, i might was wrong about Herrie's release, but anyway i don't suggest it anymore, the v2.C8 is much newer [;)]

lesmsmith -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/18/2004 4:55:27 PM)

Thanks for the advice and the excellent firmware.

I have installed your firmware and it has done everything that I wanted.

Les

Keep posting your impressions of the firmware, we are expecting new batches of firmware this or next week [8D]

Route66 -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/20/2004 9:00:31 AM)

Hi emperor,
and compliments for this site.

Talking about the upcoming TDK v2.C9 release, could you please point me to the thread where you will post it, so I can subscribe to it to get informed?

Thanks a lot and keep up with the good job.

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/20/2004 6:24:55 PM)

Probably at a new thread of this forum, also will added to the official 3500 and OEM thread so...

fjorger -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (10/31/2004 8:39:06 PM)

Hi Emperor,

Are you also going to add the new MAD DOG firmware (2.F9)?

BTW do you know if 2.F9 has Ritek/Philips/Prodisc DL support?

Thanks in advance,

FJorgeR.

PS: This is what I could manage to find on "http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=112753&page=1&pp=25"

DVD-RW Version: 1.33 1.33
DVD+R Version: 1.56g 1.55t
DVD+RW Version 1.37 1.37
DVD+R9 Version: 1.24g 1.24r

This is all.

So it seams that TDK 2C8 (DVD+RDL) is still newer than MADDOG 2F9, right?
I noticed that they are using the same has NEC 2.17 (1.24g -> Without Ritek DL Support) :(.

HayArms -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (11/23/2004 10:56:52 AM)

Someone has news about an unofficial version of the new 219 TDK firmware?

Seems to be the one with the best Writing strategies

Bye

BAD_NL -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (11/23/2004 2:55:53 PM)

Yes there is a cracked version of TDK 2.79 with RPC1 and Riplock removed. No other changes. You can find a topic where it's in here:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=114953

Only the TDK 2.79 firmware isn't that good, SL bitsetting does not work and it has the same write strategies as the NEC 2.18 firmware. I suggest you use the LIGGY 2.18 SE Formware that does support SL bitsetting and also has some nice sped rips :)

Ciao, [B.A.D]

emperor -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (11/23/2004 3:38:00 PM)

I didn't tested extesively the 2.79, so maybe bitsetting doesn't work as supposed too[8|][:(]

Avision -> RE: NEC 3500AG Drive (11/25/2004 1:30:22 PM)

Hello, I wanted to flash my Nec 3500 to the 2.18SE since it seams to be the unofficial firware based on the most recent official firmware (correct me if I'm wrong). But I read the things with OEM version retail version and I don't really know which one I got; I notice that with the original firmware (I didn't change it) the burner is name ND-3500AG o_O So can I update to 2.18SE ?
Thanks
