I'd like to flash the firmware on my DVR-108 up to 1.14, but there's one problem - it's in a linux (only) box. While I do have a Win XP laptop available, running the exe from the pioneer website (http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/article/0,,2076_4249_138551420,00.html) tells me that there isn't a a DVR-108 in the laptop (well duh! it wouldn't fit, for one thing).

Is there some way to get the firmware and a flasher onto a bootable floppy that doesn't require installing windows onto my linux box?

over www.rpc1.org there are un-official flashers for Pioneer drives, i don't know if NIL had made such flasher for Linux, you can always ask him[;)]

I just got my Pioneer DVR-108 today and am less than impressed with the results so far. I'm not sure why but my Ridata 8x DVD+R will only burn at 4x on this drive :( I tried upgrading from 1.10 to 1.14 and still burns at 4x tried nero and dvd-decrypter both burn at 4x Disc ID: RITEK-R03-01. ANy ideas? I know the media is at least good for 8x I had the firmware upgraded 411s->811s and the lite on burned these media perfectly at 8x. Then my lite on died and I had to get a new drive. Any help would be appreciated.

Ps. Any data on burn speed for ritek G04 ?

(Update: Tried that hacked firmware and was able to burn the disks at 8x. Tried 12x and got I/O errors from dvd decrypter. Even though on the Pioneer webpage for this drive it say that Ritek 8x discs are supported up to 12x)

(Update Pt. 2 Tried some Ritek G04 4x Dvd-r media at 8x and seem to burn and playback nicely. Would post some errors data but not sure how to do the tests or if the pioneer dvr-108 will do the tests )

i don't know if NIL has made Linux flasher for Pioneer drives, might want to check over www.rpc1.org

I bought a DVR-108 back in august. It came with 1.10 firmware on it. I just updated it to 1.14 and bought Verbatim 16x DVD+Rs. Nero says the maximum write speed is 12x, when it is actually 16x. Can anyone tell me what's wrong?

Try the new Firmware, then test Nero and the Verbatim 16x again.
I bought the Verbatim 16 x , too....
