Guardian -> Doom III CD backup guide (8/15/2004 2:19:28 AM)

Let me know if this helps out or if it doesn't work for you so I can go over it and try to make it as efficient as possible.
For this I am using a plain old Mitsumi FX240S CD-ROM, DVD+RW/R+ Combo drive, 3 TDK 700mb data cd's and Alcohol 120% trial Version 1.9.2
This guide is broken down into 2 basic sections, the CD dumping process & the CD burning process
--------Section 1--------
Dumping the ISO image to your hard drive
Using the Mitsumi FX240S CD-ROM
Open Alcohol 120% (if you don't have Alcohol 120% download it Here)
1. On the left main menu, select Image Making Wizard
2. Set the CD/DVD Device to the source disk (Read speed not to exceed 4x)
3. (Skip reading errors) & (Fast skip error blocks) both checked here, the other three check boxes are unchecked, click next
4. I recommend creating a folder on your desktop named Doomcd then setting the image's location to this folder for easy
access.
5. Set the Image Format to Standard ISO and click start.
Alcohol should begin "dumping" the CD to an ISO to the Doomcd folder on your desktop.
Note that if you see the "Read data examination error" & "Disc read error" that this is OK, the blocks from about 300 to 740
are the copy protection being read by the cd & should continue about 7-15 minutes later depending on your system.
Let the dump process finish uninterrupted.
--------Section 2--------
Burning the ISO image to cd
Using the DVD+RW/R+ Combo drive
1. Back to the main menu, select Image Burning Wizard
2. if your Doom III ISO is already listed in the text box near the top all you have to do is hit next (If you want to keep
the ISO on your hard drive then uncheck the "Delete image file after recording" box), otherwise click browse and point Alcohol
120% to your Doom III ISO file
3. if you receive a popup window asking if you want to burn to DVD media click no. We are only working with CD not DVD here.
If you did not receive this popup then proceed to step 4
4. Prepare your CD/DVD Recorder window should be set up as the following starting from top to bottom.
*CD/DVD Recorder (Your CR-RW drive that has a blank CD-R inside it waiting.
*Write speed (4x)
*Using Multiple CD/DVD Recorders should be shadowed out and unchecked
Write options--------
*Write Method (RAW DAO) DAO = Disk At Once
* Write checkbox checked, Simulation checkbox unchecked
*Numbers of copies (1)
*UNCHECK (Enable Buffer Underrun Technology)
*UNCHECK (Don't close the last session of current disc)
*UNCHECK (Rectify Sub-Channel Data)
*Burn "RMPS" to recordable media should be UNCHECKED and shadowed out
*Datatype: (SafeDisc 2/3)
Click Start
The first Doom III cd should be underway, sit tight and let it copy, this time you shouldn't witness any errors during the
burning process and it should be burning at a low speed (i.e 1x,2x,4x)
Once the first CD is finished you have to do the same instructions for disc 2 & disc 3. But this time all the settings should
already be set for you, the settings being what we just went over should still be in tack so it will only be. Insert Doom III
#2 cd, click Image making wizard, same settings as disc 1, dump the contents to an ISO, burn the second ISO to another blank
disc, disc 3 is the exact same as the rest. Once this is finished you should have dumped and burnt Doom3_1.iso, Doom3_2.iso &
Doom3_3.iso successfully. The only error messages that should have arrived are the read errors when you first dump Doom III
disc 1 to your Doomcd folder everything else should be smooth.
I do not guarantee this to work for everybody, even though it worked for me on the very first try without a single coaster or
any cracks to patch the ISO's, its a simple burning process and if it doesn't work then you probably did something wrong during
the process. I am not here to be your CD tech. I merely believe that knowledge is meant to be free and I was requested to
share this knowledge. I do not take responsibilities if you break something attempting this backup procedure.
But with all that said I hope this helps the folks out there who enjoy knowing that their assets are safe from harm. I am not
a hacker nor cracker I am only me and during my stay here in the forums I hope to grow my understanding of how things work
