_copycat_ -> Back up Morrowind (7/31/2004 9:39:57 PM)

I need to back up my Morrowind Elder Scrolls III before my grandsons get a hold of it and scratch it, step on it, or spill soda on it. I don't have a DVD burner at the moment and it's a little to large for my CD's. Is there a way to condence or delete some of the files that I don't need ie....DircetX 8 installation file and registration file?

I'm confused, according to my research, it's a cd-based game. If you are trying to get both discs combined onto one disc, you can't due to the protection. If you are just trying to make a backup of it onto another cd, it's not too difficult, assuming you got the hardware. Simply use Alcohol or Blindwrite and use the Safedisc 2 profile/settings. If you are still having troubles, post back with you burner make and model number.

The Morrowind CD is 655 MB and my CD's are only 650 MB. So I need to delete somthing like the DirextX 8.1 files, I don't need them. But I am unable to delete them because they are read only files and it won't let me. I unchecked read only box but it still say's I can't move the files to that location,being the trash can.[:@]

Ok, I see now. You won't be able to make a backup that way. As soon as you remove some files, the protection will be lost and it won't play. You need to go and get some 700MB discs and use those.

Thank you very much for your help! Now I have another question. I'm using a Lite-On LTR 40125S and thought I might need to update the drivers or firmware,so I downloaded the firmware update but when I run it I get an error "No matched drive detected...Utility is only for LTR 40125S. Drive detected 1:0 Lite-On LTR 40125S." Am I missing somthing [:(]

I honestly can't help you there, as I've never updated the firmware for any of my drives. I like to follow the motto, "Don't fix what isn't broken." [:D] I'm sure someone else will be able to help you though. Just remember, if you have any problems copying the game, post back and we'll be glad to help you out.

OK!!![8D]I've reinstalled Alcohol 120% and deleted everything "Morrowind"from my computer,Iwent and got some Memorex CD-R's. Every thing went very smooth and twice as fast as previously. NOW I'm getting an error.... "An insallation support file...'C:\DOCUME~1\AMINI~\LOCALS~1\Temp\b42f73d4-afda-476-b3f4-23a872d11339\Setup.inx' could not be installed. Data error( cyclic redundancy check ) I have no clue what this means except it looks like I have another coaster[:o]

vbguru_12000 -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 10:30:11 PM)

This error is from the original or the backup? If it's the backup, what settings did you use to make it? Also, is there any scratches on the disc as cyclic redundancy errors typically are caused by scratches.

_copycat_ -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 10:39:53 PM)

The disk is in good shape. I got the error from the backup,and as far as settings I used what A.120% used as default. It did copy pretty fast, should I slow it down? Also if I had run a simulation would it have informed me of the problem before I actully made the recording?

vbguru_12000 -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 11:01:08 PM)

You need to use the Safedisc 2 setting, it'll take alittle bit to copy, just let it go and it should work fine for you.

_copycat_ -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 11:12:59 PM)

I was just looking at the setup files and the number in the previous post beginning after Temp\ is the productGUID number, does this information help? This is information from the files that are on the backup and they all appear normal[8|]

_copycat_ -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 11:14:25 PM)

I used Safe disc 2\3 is that the same?

vbguru_12000 -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/1/2004 11:20:30 PM)

Yes, this is the setting you should be using. So this setting still produced a bad copy? And, is it only the installation on the backup that isn't working? Can you install using the original, then play using the backup?

_copycat_ -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/2/2004 12:36:27 AM)

When I did a sector scan with A-Ray it said Safedisc, then when I used just the "Scan" by its self it said Safedisc 2. So I tried using just Safedisc not 2/3. Everything went fine, simulated and record. When I ran the backup it loaded to 2 marks on the load indicator then just kept going zing...zing...zing finaly I pressed ctrl,alt,delete and as soon as the task mgr. popped up the game continued loading, untill it got to the point to load the TES construction set and started to do the same thing. It never did load the TES just bypassed but thats ok I have the TES on another disc. Good luck trying to make sense out of this, I'm gonna go play[:D]

_copycat_ -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/2/2004 1:09:17 AM)

Well!!!! I guess I won't play[&:] The backup won't play the game. I get an error "CD-ROM not found. Do I need to mount the image to the device that A120% created before I record to my CD-RW drive?

vbguru_12000 -> RE: Back up Morrowind (8/2/2004 9:24:31 AM)

You need to use the Safedisc 2/3 setting, as it is protected with Safedisc 2.5. The Safedisc setting will not make a working backup.
