Rednroll -> RE: PS2 HD Loader Info - HDL Dumb! (11/10/2004 11:18:41 AM)

I read this entire thread and learned alot except the one question I came here for. That question being, can I install a Non-Sony IDE HDD into my PS2 and run the new Socom II maps on it? I'm not looking to put any games and run them off of the HDD using HD loader. I just want to install something larger than the 40 Gig Sony HDD and make it seem like a legitimate HD on my PS2, so I can put the new SocomII maps on it for now. Then down the road when I feel like playing something other than Socom2 then I might consider doing the HD Loader stuff. In my question, it would seem you wouldn't need HD loader at all. It would seem I would just need a utility like WINHIIP, just to format the HD, after that the PS2 should just think it's business as usual in that a HDD just got added. So has anyone at least tried this with the Socom 2 maps?

Another thing I find really ironic is that a few members asked where to find a free copy of HD Loader and the response was, "well you should really pay for it and support them for that product". While the whole time giving advice on how to jack PS2 games so you don't have to pay for them. Can you say "Hypocrit"? Yeah, lets support the company that has developed a product to steal from everyone else, while saying f*ck the legitimate company that spent 100 times more time and money developing their product. Sorry, but that is some dumba** reasoning there.

Anyways I don't believe my question will ever get answered here, and I really think the moderators of this forum should make a new post with all this informastion in it. I know I've spent over 4 hours reading this thread along with the additional post from posted links, So I'll post most of the good information in this message so others don't have to spend so much time.

P.S.
I have 2 PS2's, I'm going to purchase the official Sony Hard drive for one and a non Sony...probably Maxtor 120GB Hard drive for the other. Both games are connected to my Wireless network to go online, I'll let you all know my results and what I had to do to get the non Sony HDD to work with the SocomII maps, or if this is even possible.

Hi new guy here. I have been reading the thread for a while and have benefitted greatly.

THE QUESTION: I have an external enclosure, but am tired of taking my HD out of the PS2 everytime I want to use HDL Dump. I have tried to connect my Ps2 to my PC via USB ports on the front and the firewire port to try a direct link from ps2 to PC. My computer doesn't detect the Ps2 at all.

HDL Dump has a netwroking feature, so I connected my Ps2 via ethernet cable to my DSL router and my computer to the DSL router via the USB port. Now I can play online with my PS2 and can access the web from my computer but how do I get HDL Dump to find my Ps2 to transfer stright to the HD?

I have found the Ip address of my LAN and I have run the Ipconfig from the command line. What do I need to do to the Ps2 to connect. All cables are in place but HDL Dump won't connect.

PLease help as I am going nuts!

Thanks

vicx -> RE: PS2 HD Loader Info - HDL Dumb! (11/16/2004 6:51:49 PM)

leonsceco -> RE: PS2 HD Loader Info - HDL Dumb! (11/18/2004 4:37:51 PM)

Well I can confirm the following after reading almost all the posts posted here and my tests and trials:

I have a Version 4 PS2 SCPH 30001R with Magic V Chip, BACKUPS WILL NOT COPY TO THE HDD.
I Tried Metal Gear Solid 2 and it copied fine, so i will confirm that copies do not copy since the PS2 does it's own check before copying the game to the HDD.

I use an USB Enclosure Kit to install the following on my Seagate 40gb HDD:
Rachet and Crank 3 - Works until first Dialog at the war site.
Onimusha 2 - Work Fine
Mortal Kombat Deception DVDRIP - Worked Fine (VERY FAST LOADING)
Legend of Legaia 2 - Not Tested Yet
Neo Contra - Works Fine
Tekken Tag Tournament - Works Great
Spyro Enter the Dragonfly - Not Tested Yet

Most of the other games i tested including Guilty Gear Isaka does not install as WinHiip and HDL Dumb says that there is a problem writing to the drive.

Since i'm lazy and do not want to disconnect my backup 160gb hard drive, I wanted to install everything from the enclosure kit, but Not all games will work with this.

I will install the HDD in my pc later on today and test if it is a transfer problem (.09mbps on USB Transfer).

I will post results later.

leonsceco -> RE: PS2 HD Loader Info - HDL Dumb! (11/18/2004 8:00:38 PM)

I have confirmed now that so far all the games i tried to put on my hdd have installed without problems.

Hey vicx, you need to put the HDD attached to your PS2 Network Adaptor (SONY) in your ps2 and boot it up and format it from HDLoader or HDAdvanced and format for HDL Dumb to recognize it as a PS2 Drive. Or alternatively, you could just hook the hard drive up to a USB Enclosure kit or directly to your PC and use WinHiip and use the PS2 Format utility to make the drive accessable from HDL Dumb, and install your games after that.

I AM MOST GRATEFUL FOR emperor as it was him who posted the link to HDL Dumb that got me into this whole ps2 hdd on Computer thing and then later on i found WinHiip. THANKS ALOT MAN, MANY THANKS!!!

I almost forgot, The best thing about WinHiip is it will automatically find the Boot File or Game ID which some games will not boot with HDL Dumb because it cannot find the game ID in the ISO (ex. Tekken Tag Tournament) so i would suggest WinHiip if you gonna transfer Files!!!

drovkin -> RE: Advanced HDLoader Compatabilty list (11/27/2004 1:52:30 AM)

I have a question about games with more than 1 CD

I have Shadow Hearts and wanted to put it on my HD, but how do you do that? Am I going to have to load them on my computer, somehow combine the iso images and then put it on the HD? I'm sure there's something I'm missing, i'm just lost.

thanks for the help.

ritzthekracker -> RE: Advanced HDLoader Compatabilty list (12/2/2004 1:12:39 AM)

Can someone please help me!!!

neilg -> RE: Advanced HDLoader Compatabilty list (12/29/2004 6:37:26 PM)

you should try and format your hd first. (in your PS2) then put games on it (WINHIIP), maybe this is your problem.

Hey I am have slight trouble, maybe I am doing the process wrong or whatever. I have the orginal Sony HDD the network adapter and a non modded ps2. I have downloaded copies of HDLoader, Winhiip, and HDL Dumb. I have connected my ps2 harddrive to my laptop via external enclosure and have formated it with winhiip and put games on it with hdl dumb. But when i put my harddrive back in my ps2 it doesnt read the hdd, says it isnt there. What am I supposed to do with my hdloader, i put it in my ps2 and turned it on and it came up as an audio cd playing only 2 files. Am I supposed to put hdloader on my ps2 hdd? I have no clue what to do, should i format my ps2 with the software I got from the Final Fantasy XI game? Please any clues........thanks

Jeremy

Whats the problem??
