First of all, thank you for not giving up on me.

Motherboard: ASUS A7V Socket A (JumperFree PC133/VC133, 200MHz FSB, AGP Pro/4X KT133 AGPset)

Didn't know if you needed what is in the parantheses or not so I thought I would put it just in case.

Yes I was having these problems before I upgraded my firmware. My burner did work with XP before and I never had these problems, but now it doesn't. I will search for drivers for my motherboard also and we will see if we find the same ones.

I have installed the 4in 1 drivers and I am still recieving the same result.

I looked on ASUS's website http://download.asus.com.tw/mb_dl_menu.asp ,and found these downloads for my motherboard. However as you can see they say win9x/ME/NT4/2000, I do not know if 2000 could also mean XP and if they would work. From this site I have downloaded the 4in 1 drivers, the A7V Bios, and Promise Ultra IDE Controller Driver V 1.60, I have not yet installed them because I wanted you to look at them and see if you could find anything else that might be better. I have searched for a good hour and Im going to bed.

if you have Installed the latest 4in 1 there is no need for the ASUS drivers. And this is starting to look like you have got a Hardware Failure !

Hi iwin611 & ashburn
I have just e-mailed you a zip file. It is only 249k. Just unzip it into a folder and follow the instructions and that should cure your problems with the ASPI ! Please let me know on the forum how it goes!!

Hey Laffin, do you think updating my BIOS might help with my troubles? I have the oldest version for this motherboard. If not I am going to buy a new cd rw this week.

A store near me has a great deal on a Samsung cdrw, and Id like your opinion if you think that Samsung are nice or if they are horrible AND which brand is the "best" overall. Also if I do buy this burner or another should I get rid of all updates Ive installed to try and get my Philips to work. I have 2 hard drives and one partitioned into 2, so I have 3 total. I have all my windows stuff on one drive, should I just format it and reinstall windows xp to be safe so I dont have any errors when installing my new burner? Thank you for your help again

Ryan

Laffin Assassin -> RE: Cure the ASPI Problems with the Philips PCRW804 (8/7/2002 8:50:37 PM)

Hi Again Ryan
I would suggest if you can get a new Bios for your motherboard you Download it and Install it and see if that makes any difference !
As for Samsung I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole I personally think they are one of the worst CRDW's ever made (But that is only my own personal opinion) If you are looking for cheap one I would suggest that you go for the Lite-on or if you want a good high quality one I would go for the Yamaha 3200e 24x10x40 and at the moment they are quite cheap and to get something better than this it would cost quite a lot more! But in the end the Choice is yours !!!
And as for formating your Hard-drive I would test your new Writer with your existing Windows first and if you are still getting problems then I would format it and re-install Windows Xp!
I hope this Helps !!!

Albaterra -> RE: Cure the ASPI Problems with the Philips PCRW804 (8/8/2002 3:29:20 AM)

Hi Laffin Assassin,
Have (finally) successfully upgraded my PCRW804 to firmware 2.5.
The whole ASPI scenario was driving me crazy, so I decided to try a complete format and reinstallation of Win XP.
Flashed the drive immediately after installation, and using your ASPI fix every thing worked fine.
Thanks for you help,
Albaterra.

dueseswild -> RE: Cure the ASPI Problems with the Philips PCRW804 (8/17/2002 7:37:24 PM)

add one more to get your fix to the Philip's ASPI problems.

dueseswild@hotmail.com

- updating a pcwr404 drive in a pcwr464 usb model. found 1.5b firmware... presumably the latest?

- is there any "alternate" version(s) that may do more/better performance?

thanks

Puuhis -> RE: Cure the ASPI Problems with the Philips PCRW804 (8/19/2002 12:26:52 PM)

I also need the file... Could someone please send it to me?!

Thank you 4 your help!

ajtsst -> RE: Cure the ASPI Problems with the Philips PCRW804 (8/19/2002 1:53:57 PM)

Can I get a copy of that file as well? I flashed my firmaware ealier today (to try to solve some problems I was having with Easy CD Creator 5.1 Platinum), and now my drive will not READ any disks. It'll WRITE them fine, but not read them! Go figure!

I thought maybe if I try your "miracle" ASPI fix, and update the firmware again, maybe it would fix this. . . I'm not sure.

Thanks!
