Hi,

I'm new to all this, so please be gentle.

I've just bought a NEC NG 3500A (great piece of kit) and with the help of this forum made it region free with Liggy's updated firmware - worked like a charm.

However, I told that I can change the "booktype" and "bitsetting".
What are these terms and should I really have to change them and why?

Sorry, but as stated - I'm a Newbie (shame!!)

Welcome to CDRinfo's Forum!

Imagine you have A DVD+R media that cannot be played on your standalone player. You can change its booktype from DVD+R to DVD-ROM so it will be playable. In simple words your DVD+R media will be identified us DVD-ROM. The same can be done for DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD+R DL media.

If you don't have any compatibility issues there is no such need to proceed with this change.

Iggy - thanks for the reply!

I'd read these terms be thrown about on the forum, but didn't understand. Your explanation was clear and concise - JOB DONE!!

You can bitset -R/RW, booktype setting is only possible on +R/RW and even then only on drives that support the feature.

I recently changed my firmware on my ND 3500AG to "218_liggy_Ritek_SE". Using the winflash I find these Booktype settings: 1. DVD+R SL (none) --> dvd+r (active), 2. DVD+RW (none) --> dvd+rw (active) and 3. DVD+R DL (none) -->dvd-rom (active). I wish to note that on my drive's box specs says it can burn DL disks. But so far I couldn't burn on a Traxdata DVD+R DL disk... Is there any suggestion to alter the above booktype settings ??? And something else... When playingback with POWERDVD I notice a choppy movement now and then... In the past using a simple DVDROM drive I hadn't any picture frame loss. Is there any solution for this trully annoying situation ??? Maybe through bitsetting ??? How do I find bitsetting settings and where exactly ?? Plz forgive me for my ignorance... I just want the full out of this fab device, and only with your help guys I can manage.... Thanks in advance for your answer...
