I'm getting a fair amount of email in response to this thread. Since I can't edit the original thread, here are
instructions on upgrading your ND-6450A to DL support:
Step 1: Download binflash (get the Win32 GUI version) from here,
http://binflash.cdfreaks.com/ Step 2: Download stock firmware, 2.23 6500A (or whichever is the newest build) from the "Attachments" in the second message in this thread,
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=84345 (As of this writing,
223_14.10.04.rar is the newest, stock, 6500A firmware and it works with the ND-6450A)
Step 3: (OPTIONAL)
Backup your current firmware. If something goes wrong, this is your recovery:
Select your ND-6450A drive from the drop down menu in binflash and select "Dump."
Make up a filename (any filename) and put this firmware somewhere safe just in case your flash fails.
Step 4: Select "Flash" in Binflash and choose the firmware you downloaded in Step 2. For me this file is named
223_14.10.04.bin.
Binflash will go through its motions and tell you to reboot to recognize your new firmware.
Step 4: Reboot. Upon restart you should see a "New hardware found" dialog while windows recognized your drive as the 6500A.

Hope I didn't miss anything, this is a pretty simple process--if you have any trouble consult the official ND-6500A firmware overview thread for the answers to most/all your questions (
http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/tm.asp?m=84345).
And remember, you will probably
VOID YOUR WARRANTY when you flash non-stock firmware.
If you aren't comfortable doing this,
DON'T DO IT. While many people have had success flashing their ND-6450A to the ND-6500A firmware, not all machines are the same and you do run the very real risk of disabling your drive.
Use caution, have fun, and enjoy DL burning!
