Hi people

I'm a total newbie ragarding quality on discs. Anyway i have a "cakebox" (25discs) made by Sony. This is the info i get from Nero Infotool:

Layers: 1
Supp speeds: 2x-4x
4.38GB
Manufactuere ID: SONY04D1

In the center of the discs it says DVD-R Ver2.0/1x-4x.

Anybody know how the quality on these discs are?. BTW i have a NEC 3500AG with stock FW. Downloaded the latetst official FW update and are gonna update tomorrow.

Thx in advance

The newbie.

SONY04D1 is decent, but the 8x discs are better (SONY08D1), especially the ones made in Japan.

Thx for answering. With the term descent what do you mean in more real worlds terms? Is it like easy to damage the discs while burning etc, or is it just the quality of the burn that will be bad so it will be hard to get it to play in a lot of different DVD readers?

Sry if i ask basic questions but i just started to read about these things and really need to burn some backups tonight..

Between these brands what would you people choose:

Verbatim
Maxell
Sony
Memorex

From 1x-8x speed. and should they be made in a special country?

Thx in advance

The newbie..

BTW if i remember a previous post correctly, it stated that all discs made in Japan are better than the same brand but made in another country?? Is that true?

Verbatim and Maxell are great, from the top brands. Memorex in most cases are CMC Magnetics which is also good.
