The writing quality is good but other companies have similar performance.

Minos, you didn't NAME those companies with similar performance! Also, do you think DVD drives have "Topped-out" at 16x recording speed?!

Yes, if I'm not mistaken 16x is the maximum speed for DVD reading and recording. Companies may experiment with ways to reach 16x more quickly, like aggressive P-CAV write strategies such as the LG GSA-4163B uses, but that's the ceiling.

The ceiling is still being able to write at 1X or 2X on a 4X certified dye and keep the video recording intact for 10 years ...

Thanks GenAn, I thought that 16x was the max speed for DVD reading and writing, but wasn't sure! So, I thought I'd ask to be sure.

Plextor always charge MORE for their drives! But then always seems to give REBATES to. What's up with that? Why not just charge the price without the rebate?! Yes, Plextor drives do cost too much.

Again Minos, do you think DVD drives are "Topped-out" at the 16x reading & writing??

Interestingly they came to the same conclusion I did ;) It is a good drive, but very media specific and Powerec is vastly too sensitive.

Simple solution:
1. Buy 16x Verbatim DVD+Rs for flawless 16x DVD writing every time.
2. Disable Powerec as the drive seems to cope fine without it.

I wonder if the "PowerRec" issue holds true for the Plextor "Premium Drive" (52x CD/RW)?! I have this drive but have always allowed PowerRec to determine the record speed.

Does anybody have an idea why Plextools Pro do not run? (v. 2.17 that came with the 716).
I have had the same problem with earlier versions of Plextools Pro (that came with the Premium drive).
Installation completes OK. I try to execute, the process is registered in Task Manager, but nothing
happens. What is interesting is that Task Manager cannot kill the process - only reboot works.

Same problem either in manual execution, or automatic at startup. PXinfo does not run either!

Any ideas?? Plextor's tech support cannot offer any help.

Here is the system data:
WIN2K Server SP4
PIII/1GHz
512MB RAM
2GB Swap
2x120GB HD (non-raid)

I have even tried on a clean system installation - without any other s/w installed!

I have checked that all versions of Plextools Pro that do not run on that machine, run without problems on other
machines with similar configuration, but with 256MB of RAM. Coincidence?

I don't think Plextools works with "Win2K Server"! What ASPI Layer are you using?

ASPI layer 4.71 if I remember correctly (I cannot check it at the moment).

Plextools DOES work with WIN2K SRV, I have two other machines (with 256MB RAM) to prove it

ASPI layer isn't necessary to run PlexTools (at least on 2K/XP).
