But nec is saying that thier orginal firmware update software (2.18) is only for bulk/retail versions:

-this Update works only with NEC ND-3500A(G) retail/ bulk, not with OEM releases.
(OEM means part of a full PC package or external USB/FireWire variant of this burner)
>For OEM products contact your dealer, distributior or manufacturer of PC-/ USB-package.

Why they are not allowing to update firmware for oem versions? What's gonna happen when I'm going to do it? Will I lose my 24 mounth guarantee (normally when updating drive with official ssoftware, I'm not loosing guaqrantee, right?)
Maybe it just don't work with oem versions
PLEASE HELP

Yeah I even received replay from Nec Hotline Support Engineer Service & Quality (hotline@de.neceur.com), they confirmed that
but why they are disinforming costumers by saying that firmware is only for box/bulk versions of drivers??

They even send me interesting information about updating firmwave that can not be found in rginal readme.txt file:

- under Windows2000 & XP login as administrator

- Update in Windows "Safe Mode" (I never heard about it)

-disconnect all slave hardware from secondary Master (I never heard about it)

-use 40pin UDMA-2 IDE cable (this suprice me also)

-disconnect all external (USB/ FireWire) components

-update without DMA mode, under Windows XP in the device manager - "IDE
ATA/ ATAPI controllers", you can switch from DMA to PIO mode.

What do You think about this "official" advices from Nec stuff?
