I don't think you can go wrong with 2C8SE or the 2.18Liggy_SE

Both handle bitsetting...2C8SE applies it in the firmware...where the Liggy has to be activated. 2C8SE is extremely stable. 2.18LIGGY_SE has the latest writing strategies...and I have yet to have a problem.

Mind you...I burn mainly TY (Fujifilm DVD+R 16X and DVD-R 12X , Verbatim DVD+R DL 4X, and TDK DVD-R 8X)

Never any coasters with TY...Verbatim DL are great...Verbatim 16X DVD+R still have some issues

Can you explain the "Liggy has to be activated" bit. I am running that level of firmware and haven't activated anything.

Instead of choosing flash...choose bitsetting...now set DVD+R and DVD+R DL and if you choose DVD+RW to DVD-ROM and hit apply...that's it...you have set the drive to DVD-ROM in all +R settings and from now on...all burns in those modes will finalize DVD-ROM

Ah, now I understand.

As it happened it didn't need to do that because I had already set the default settings for all of the +R types to DVD-ROM using WinBTypeV2 utility when I had an earlier firmware installed.

These setting carried over into the new firmware without me needing to do anything
