I purshased a 48x16:48 2 days ago (MSI 8348 - firmware 150D)
OS : WINXP

the cd recorder works perfectly with NERO 5.5.10.7. (only tryied writing at 40x now)

I installed InCD 3.37 then tryied to UDF formatting 2 RW... I got the well-known errors that everybody is claiming here.... :-(
Then I bought some 1-4X EMTEC RW ; no errors formatting but it told me it was checking for wrong clusters ; and the operation took 3 hours and cd was un-usable (!) lol :-(

so I read ALL THE THREADS (posts) written here (related to this topic abt InCD) and I read somerwhere that some people said it works when you have NO ethernet network card... finger crossed

So I "desactivated" my network card by windows (software) -- physically the card was still inside my PCI slot -- but no IP assigned anymore to the card and there was a red cross on the ethernet card of course, controlled by XP...

rock'n'roll, It formatted at last successfully my 5 CDs (EMTEC 1-4X) -- that failed before (!) ...

I just want to thank all the members here ; I hope this will help some people having such problems - As I understood, many people are having pbs using UDF CDs!!

(ps : if you want more details, e-mail me "InCD" topic beginning, otherwise your mail will go to "undesired folder")

thanks !

thanks for the info. i never would have thought having a ethernet card would mess up formatting. another reason to stay away from packet-writing :-).

well it worked on my computer...

anyway I find UDF cds very very fragile ; I am not very gifted and I will not save important data on it because of weird errors happening sometimes... and all data are lost

Yep, I once tried packet writing about five years ago and lost some (no so important) files. Easy and fast to use but I don't think it is worth the trouble of having to worry if your data will be there the next time you access the disc.

jeanse:

Since so many people use InCD successfully on XP boxes with NICs, your problem may be due to your NIC driver settings.

For instance, users of some 3Com NICs frequently deactivate the option of "Software link detect", because otherwise the NIC polling may cause system freezes every few seconds.

Thus, instead of disabling the NIC, you could try to play with similar parameter settings.

well, it seems Ahead.de's Nero InCD application (the newest version - I just installed it yesterday!!) is doing rather crappy now as far as packet-writing UDF formattable RW media is concerned.

Here's a related article:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2162&whichpage=3

I run Win2K SP3 and I even updated InCD to the latest version, v3.5.20.0 and it STILL gives me an error when trying to format Memorex 4x RW media. MY burner is an older HP 8100i 2x4x24 and one would think it could use these disks but I guess it can't :-( I keep getting this weird error, all the time, and it never goes away.

"[0051-0005-0064-0000] Illegal Request Error occurred. Reboot your system or drive and try again. Insert a new disc."

I have been advised by someone on one of the CDR Message forums to try disabling my NIC (network card) prior to formatting and it should work fine, without a hitch. Apparently being online and formatting a CDRW with InCD don't seem to like each other??

This is where a lady named Jeanse, here, advised us to disable our NICs prior to formatting:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8846

Anyone have any idea about this? how to remedy this?

Thanks in advance, I really need this help, cuz I am considering going back to *shudders* ADaptec/Roxio :-((( And I don't really want to.... thanks

I haven't tried disabling my NIC yet and I can't find any setting on my NIC properties for a "software link detect" - my NIC is a 3Com 3c900 PCI on RJ45 CAT5 connection to my Cable modem, courtesy of Roadrunner/Time Warner (my ISP)

Thanks in advance for any help??
please do feel free to email me as well...
